Obviously Trump is a major player here in these negotiations and he has a huge reason to be for Golf staying in the lap of America and not the Saudis so this shouldn’t be a surprise

But it’s interesting to see where it ends up

from a pure business stand point, surprised he said that. I thought LIV does multiple events at his courses. I might be mistaken.

They do. Rory mentions that

I don’t think from a “business perspective” Trump makes much of anything there that is material to his financials

I wouldn’t expect a 78 year old man to be a fan of the LIV Golf format. He did tell Bryson he likes listening to music while he golfs though

Liking the format has nothing to do with what "side" he's on

miss the last part?

“He is on the tours side”

And honestly, someone that runs on MAGA should support the American venture over the Saudi one right?

At this point they’re both getting billions from the Saudis. I think Trump just wants to see his favorite golfer Bryson play more. I’m sure he’s not staying up till 10 pm tomorrow to watch LIV Golf

Trump sleeps like 4 hours a night. That said, I’m sure he’s not taking time to watch either tour if we’re being honest. But I do think he wants the talent back together and primarily at American golf courses

Is anyone actually a fan of the LIV format other than the guys getting paid 9 digits to sign a contract with LIV?

Trumps fandom is whatever. IMO, the biggest impact he'll bring to negotiations is less antitrust enforcement than a biden administration so a deal can get done and the DOJ won't get in the way.

The format, as in shotgun starts? No

I think the team stuff could be pretty cool if done correctly. Most of these guys played college golf and there's something to be said for playing for someone other than yourself.

I don't know how that looks going forward, but I'd damn sure have more interest in watching team golf on an actual course in an actual tournament than I do watching these guys hit into a screen and putt on a revolving green in a south Florida dome.

His courses have hosted many LIV events. Plus he was mad when the PGA tour took away their tournament in Doral.

This guy holds grudges like no other, doubt he's on the PGA side.

I think the shotgun start is a good idea. You get to see more guys finish a round. I think it'd be good for the tour to do that at least on Thursday and Friday. I can see them never wanting to do that especially on a Sunday though. But it would allow people to watch more full rounds.

The team aspect is not for everyone. It'll never happen especially if they do actually merge but the tour doing maybe a few team events a year, possibly on some of the least popular events, would bring more intrigue. to them.

The tour has added more shorter fields, no cut tournaments so they obviously liked that format some.

Don't think it really falls under the "format" blanket but playing worldwide is probably the best thing they do imo just as far as a viewer. The courses they play on are pretty bad arse. i don't watch a ton of LIV but I do like to catch the out of the US tournaments in part just to see some of the cool courses they are playing on.

At first, I thought this would be a good suggestion, but it just wouldn't work unless you did two shotgun starts in the day. There are too many players in the field. If they can make it work with the number of players, I think it would be helpful for the first two rounds. People that are watching aren't really concerned with overall score. It's just about shots. However, on the weekend, normal starting is a must.

I have a hard time following the round in the shotgun start format, personally. I think it makes for a bad viewing experience. I hope this is the one thing the PGA never adopts.
