LSU baseball sophomore Steven Milam will begin this season as the Tigers' starting shortstop, coach Jay Johnson revealed on the "Batter Up" show Tuesday.
Milam was LSU's second baseman last season and stood out defensively because of his arm strength and quickness at the position. He spent some time at shortstop last season and primarily played there in high school.
Johnson has also repeatedly said this preseason that Milam is the Tigers' best defensive infielder.

Thought that was well known

Jones, Brown and Milam might be the best trio of hitters this program has ever seen

If Jared Jones can match Crews 2023 OPS you would still need Brown and Milam to match Tommy White and Travinski (1.158, 1.157). That's just to be as good as 2 years ago, let alone all time. No offense to Brown and Milam, but I don't see 2023 Tommy White or Travinski when I watch them bat.
Credit where credit is due, 2024 Jones was 1.201 OPS to Crews' 2023 1.280 OPS. That's at least a fair fight, but again, best 3 ever vs as good as 2 years ago is two totally different conversations and I don't think Crews, White, Travinski is the best ever either.

Crews and White for sure, but I’d argue that Morgan, and not travinski, is the 3rd man in that trio. He didn’t have the power that Travy had, but he was a hit machine. Had 165 more AB than travy did, and only 8 more Ks (fewer than crews and white). Didn’t have the power, but wasn’t as streaky, and always put the ball in play.

They both make the point I was trying to make. I only picked Travinski because he was #3 on the season in OPS, OBP, AVG, and #2 in SLG, but Morgan had 165 more ABs.

Maybe… but Brown and Milam need to blow the frick up.
Crews White and Beloso were pretty damn good in 2023 and the. you could look at all those 90s teams.

3 hole Brandon Larson .381 avg 40 hr 118 rbi
4 hole Eddy Furniss .378 avg 17 hr 77 rbi
5 hole Mike Koerner .352 avg 22 hr 69 rbi

This is a great move that I was calling for last year! Hope Braswell minimizes his errors at 3B.

And Blair Barbier was right there with Koerner as well. Koerner had better power numbers and Barbier hit a percentage point higher and had a better OBP.
I mean, I like Jake Brown, but in 90 ABs he has hit .256 with 4 HRs.

As excited as I am for them, Morgan, Crews, and Tommy Tanks beg to differ

Putting up the best stats due to the most inflated era of offense in college baseball history doesn't equate to the 3 best hitters in school history. only one of those guys made it to the big leagues and he had less than 300 AB's

The year following that was pretty damn good as well
Eddie Furniss .403 avg 28 hr 76 RBI
Trey McClure . 325 avg 27 hr 84 RBI
Brad Cresse .323 avg 29 hr 90 RBI

I can tell you never saw those guys play. Better to keep your mouth shut sometimes so people don’t know how ignorant you are.
