Pretty crazy,
Some place in LA found a guy that had a large collection of 3 wheelers and 4 wheelers including one from 1986 still in the crate and auctioned them. It’s a Honda ATC250r
The crated machine went for 200k
The drive

Fest time I ever rode one, I drove over both my legs at the same time and pushed my balls up into my pelvis.
The fella that owned it, stenciled the name “Sweetie Pie” on the side of the gas tank.
I hope you’re reading this now Dave. Have a laugh.

Those were the bikes of my dreams growing up . I have fond memories of our pair of 125m’s . We rode those things for years.
I found a 1987 Big Red 250 about 10 years ago and bought it. It starts right up and still has the metal tank .

That’s a heck of a return on investment. If I remember right, that bike was purchased for about $70k just a few years ago.

1985 - 1986 Honda 250ES
Original Price
1985 250ES Approximate MSRP: $1,968.00
1986 250ES Approximate MSRP: $1,998.00
For comparison prices in 1985 and 1986.
1985 Honda ATC 250R $2,298
1986 Honda ATC 250R $2,348
1985 Chevy Chevette $5,340
1982 GMC 1500 Pickup $7,764
Wanted to see the cost when new back in the day and I thought this was interesting. Crazy to think that they cost 40% of a new pickup.

Uhhh not exactly- Travis Gisclair is easily, and by a pretty good margin, the country’s top Honda vintage guy.
It’s honestly a cult only surpassed by Mopar people, but just barely ahead of Toyota people.
I want him to restore my 87 CR500 and when I called- the person at the shop told me he isn’t even taking restorations anymore.
Awesome story- he started from nothing with his wife and a buddy of his.
ETA…what I meant to say is he didn’t find anyone- if you want to buy or sell cool vintage Honda toys today and you want the good stuff, you call Travis. He is often blamed on the interwebs for inflating the market- I think it’s cool that he did all this from a little shop DTB.

Can you expand your story?

its easier than you might think. I've ran myself over twice on 3-whillas as a young lad. One time completely unscathed and the worst road rash I've ever had on the other.
Standing up on the pegs and foot slipping off was the culprit both times. Foot under the wheel and pulled me off.
eta: the commentary you get from your buds from "being run over by your own machine" isn't taken lightly.

Back in the 80’s a guy I went to HS with was thrown over the handle bars on his 3 wheeler. One of his nuts hung up on the gun rack. He de nutted himself

Sure.
I was in Galax Va drunk with my roommates in college.
Never had money as a kid to ride three wheelers or dirt bikes.
Dave hauled his old Honda three wheeler there. Second might we were there, I said, hey man. Lemme ride that thing.
He said, do you know how to ride these?
I said, of course I do arse-ole.
Got on it and said, how do you start it. He laughed.
Started it for me. Showed me the throttle and brake and laughed while he said go.
I kept my feet on the ground and throttled up and starsted running g over the back of my feet. It felt like I was splitting like a wishbone.
The other fraternity brothers all started laughing.
I look back on that place and we’ve been doing there for 30 years now.
The only thing that changed is he’s finally got a septic tank and no more outhouse. Now we all take our sons up there and let them run wild until 10 o’clock at night. No women to ask us to check on them. They just go.
The place is awesome too.
You cannot get there with the 2 Wheel Dr. you have to four wheel 1 mile up the mountain, and then 1 mile down the mountain. It is a unmaintained logging trail and then you have to cross the to get there. We’ve seen some crazy shite there over the years had one fraternity fall off a rock face 25 feet high and land in 2 feet of water and somehow only broke his collarbone.

To this day my favorite ATV was the Honda Big Red I grew up riding in the sugar cane fields of Glencoe, LA. Fond memories, and I enjoyed every second of how I grew up. Cool article.

Yea I went to school with Travis, his wife, and Ian. Crazy how they started and how much they have grown. Interested to see how that auction in NY goes in a few weeks that he'll be running. I think it is a collection of 100 bikes.

I would have never guessed a truck would cost more than a corvette.

I remember bringing my Big Red down to Travis when he was working out of his garage. Had a clutch issue that I was tired of fighting. Super nice guy. Crazy how much things have taken off for him. Good for him.
