I know much has been said about Alaska in the last week but what about the Bakken pipeline in ND? Are we or are we not relying on our own oil here??

We've been enjoying our own oil the whole time. Sometimes market forces dictate exploration.

We greatly cut our refining capacity

Was that due to government edict or lack of demand, maintenance, or retooling from heavy sour to light sweet refining? Don't get me wrong, I hate Biden, but what did he do that cut refining?

Biden halted NG exports because he’s a vegetable.

And it depends on the "prospects". For those who don't know, "prospects" is oil patch lingo.

I’m sure the EV mandate he put on the auto industry had something to do with the oil companies being hesitant to spend the money on new wells. Didn’t he also halt all permits at one point?

If that was the case then leave the damn oil reserves alone, after doofus took over in 2021 those ND guys were all put out to pasture, and Texas supposedly lost a lot of the guys working the fields so what gives?, please explain and serious question. FWIW are we or are we not receiving any oil from the Arabs??

When Trump left office we were down to 225 ish rigs running.. when Biden left and now running around 450 ish rigs..oil was at 80-100 during Trump early times… Saudis lost market share.. Saudis drove price to 30 by flooding the market… economics do not work for unconventional exploration below 60ish… rigs stacked everywhere.. smallcompanies going out of business..
covid hit gasoline demand plummeted.. oil was actually negative for a few months ( you paid someone to hold it)….

Covid went away.. demand picked up.. Saudis stopped flooding market.. they like it around 79-90 a barrel..

We started drilling and producing again.. when price of oil is low we drill a single well in the lease.. this allows us to call it discovered for our book keeping.. but more importantly hold the lease for future development… we have a lot of land being held by discovery for future drilling and production..

It is all economics.. never once on my economic sheets for my exploration and development projects did I have to enter the presidents name or party in power..

The very phrasing of this inquiry reveals your overall ignorance on the topic.

There is no "hold up", as the US has been putting out all time high numbers for a couple of years now.

We already "rely on our own oil" - to the extent that phrase even makes sense. It's a global market and we will always import/export at least some - depending on price/refining needs/etc.

There are only so many drilling rigs, and they are probably all fairly busy. Plus, oil and gas investors have been burned in past cycles when they irrationally invested as bull markets overheated and then collapsed from over production. They are not going to do that again.

Well under $80 from late 2015 then late 2021 was back up over $80.

That's why i started this thread smart a$$, to learn more since its been apparent that Buyden had most believing we couldn't produce our own with strategic oil reserves being used and Trump saying drill baby drill.

There has not been a new refinery built in the US since the 80's. Existing ones have been expanded or modernized but several have shut down. I know of two in Louisiana alone
