Previously they have extended the deadline before 3 months out
Will they actually go through with it now?
Would love to be a fly on the wall at MSY security the first day they enforce this
I dont have a real ID. I keep my passport in my travel bag at all times.

Real ID here and TSA preCheck...... so doesnt effect me either way
but would be fun to see the "arguements" for the JetBlu passangers that cant get past security......TSA will finally earn their check

I’ve had it for about a decade now. How does anyone not have one?

Considering I couldn't carry in that specific area, I would not

This...Its usually state law to get a new ID when you change address, between losing it and changing address the amount of people that shouldn't have naturally obtained an updated DL seems absurdly low.
ETA: lol at the downvotes. I had a brain fart that most of the people here are from Louisiana, Alabama, and Mississippi with DMV’s operating from the 80s tech.
In Florida, years ago, I was able to simply use my current Id + bring in a bill or my passport as the 2nd form. It’s been years. I go there probably once a year between a new vehicle registration or something of that nature.
Eta2: I just confirmed that Florida has been making all new DL real Id’s for years as far as I can tell.

Cave to what? Getting a new drivers license?

If I am flying out of the country, do I need Real ID with the passport?

As of my last renewal the drivers license was standard, not Real ID version. This was about two years ago. Apparently you have to bring alot of additional paperwork for the Real ID version.

I don't have one. I got a new license in 2023 and didn't think about it and the DMV didn't mention it.

This must be a difference by states thing. I did nothing extra and just renewed my license as normal.

Can’t you get one at a title place since you can renew license there?
Posted on 2/7/25 at 1:11 pm to Cosmo
You don't have to go to a DMV to get a renewed driver's license/REAL ID.

I didn’t have to do that either.

I just got a new license and did not even think about it. I guess I’ll just use my passport.

In order to obtain a REAL ID driver’s license or identification card
the following five items must be verified:
1. Identity
2. Lawful Status
3. Date of Birth
4. Social Security Information
5. Proof of residence (two documents)
For example, if you currently have a valid Louisiana Driver’s
license, presenting your original or certified copy of your birth
certificate issued from a state within the United States and your
Social Security card would provide the first 4 items on the list.
Unless you are changing your address, your valid Louisiana driver’s
license can be utilized as one form of proof of residence, a second
form could be a power bill in your name with that same address.
Commonly used primary and secondary documents are:
? Original or Certified copy of birth certificate issued by a state
within the United States (primary)
? Unexpired U.S. passport (primary)
? Permanent Resident Card (primary)
? Social Security Card (secondary)
? Voter Registration Card (secondary)
Commonly used legal presence documents are:
? Original or Certified copy of birth certificate issued by a state
within the United States.
? An unexpired foreign passport, which includes Arrival/Departure
Record (I-94, CBP I-94A or I-797A) with appropriate entry
endorsement.
Commonly used Social Security documents are:
? A Social Security card
? A W-2*
? A SSA-1099 form or a non-SSA-1099 form*
? A pay stub with the applicant’s name and SSN on it*
*Full or partial Social Security Number

All you need is a passport or two forms of proof of residency (old license and bill, etc).

I'm sure all of this will be moot anyway after the extend the deadline again for the 8th time.
I think originally everyone was supposed to have REAL ID by like 2005 or something lol
