thats less than 1% of workforce though
need hiring freeze across the board. ~6% leave fed work every year in some capacity...fastest way to cut is a hiring freeze.

How many months is Trump going to pay these 20,000 people to not work?

Till September is what I heard. They do more harm than good. Toxic people who are lazy.

He's paying them for 8 months to GTFO
Everyone wins

8 months. Which is better than paying them not to work until they retire as per usual.

If anyone in my office has taken the deal, I'm not aware of it.
Most everyone else believes it to be a "bait and switch" trap.
(Today we got the announcement that we all have to come in starting on Monday. Where we will all sit, that's TBD, as we lack space for everyone.)

You can't have a hiring freeze. Trump needs to get HIS people in. These are leadership positions within the various departments. If you hire the right people, lots of people will quit

wtf happened to the office furniture you had before going WFH?
that needs to be a path Elon and Doge go down...that millions upon millions of office furniture that just disappeared...who sold it and where was it documented?

If I were them I'd be interviewing for as many private sector jobs as I could and then take the severance once I got something. 8 months of dual incomes could set you up with a nice safety net.

can after this year. Get your people in and do a hiring freeze and be tough enough where its ~8% leave over next 2-3 years. then reevaluate

Yep. We should totally pay them for years on end for work we neither want nor need done, rather than eliminate them and save money doing it.

My gut tells me this is mostly people slated to retire this year, so they're taking the early out and collecting some extra cash

I spoke with a friend that deals with Contracts/Bidding for the Gov. He's tempted to take the offer & relayed the same thing. I believe the deadline to accept the offer is today or very soon.

I guess if Tboy wants to go all out in trying to get this cut down further, I'm not going to stop him.
Seems like a decent way to trim a who lot of federal fat to me, though.

You gut is probably correct. Judging by the screenshots posted at Reddit, the offer is not on official letterhead and is not signed by anyone. I would think the only ones that would risk taking an iffy offer like that would be those who were already planning to retire this year.

Way fewer months than they've already been paid to not work.

We all know this time is especially painful for folks like you... There is a way out...

Everyone that I know who’s taking it was/is going to retire this year anyway. Everyone one else doesn’t trust the government. That should tell you something. The governments own employees don’t even trust the government.
Trump has already placed a hiring freeze. One of the first things he did.
