Was this buyout for all federal employees?

If so, 20K is less than 1% of all federal employees, so probably just people close to retirement.

When they start comparing federal job rolls to the moonlighting work people did without approval, or were on the clock for both jobs simultaneously, we may fire more people and claw back money via lawsuit.

Still good though. I have 2 buddies who are feds (both are very MAGA) and they complain about the judges and higher ups in their agencies that are retirement age, have lowered productivity, but don’t want to leave. And it’s been difficult to force them out. So anyone leaving, retirement or not, is a good start.

Wonder how many of these are older folks that were planning to retire prior to September anyways.

One of my buddies voted Trump but took the buyout because it's retirement today vs. work til July when he'd planned on retiring

Smart ones will get out first. Will get better terms. And will be able to find jobs before the rest leave the ship.

Critics argue the offer is illegal, there's no real guarantee people will get paid out, and it's something Congress would need to authorize.

This part seems important.

Exactly. I saw a stat last week that showed nearly 40 percent of all federal WFH employees were actually working a second FULL TIME job. If they don't take the buyout, they are gonna get squat when they get canned after DOGE does a quick scan of fed employees with multiple W-2s.

One of their best employees recently got a large promotion outside of the company. His former spot is probably still available.

That is extremely low. 0.7% of the workforce. They were hoping for 5%

Probably retirees. You never take the 1st deal. There will be a second offering.
