My Proposal: 15% tariff on all international trade, coupled with a 15% flat fed income tax

Would:
1. Simplify the tax code, which would result in more compliance in both individual and business tax returns
2. Increase domestic production and jobs
3. Generate significant revenue and grow the economy
4. Boost wages
5. Decrease dependence on foreign nations
6. Encourage businesses to stay and invest in the US
7. Reduce government overreach and the IRS’s power
8. Flat tax is fair

No income tax at all.
National retail sales tax at same rate embedded corporate income taxes make up final retail price so prices remain the same.
All payroll withholding goes away and you take home your entire earnings.
Any additional revenue needed should come from tariffs and taxes on outbound foreign remittances.

Too simple, politicians would never consider

20% tariff on every country and zero taxes on the American citizen. If that's not enough to run our dumbass government then cut spending to make it work.

How will politicians steal from tax money if there are no taxes? WIll NEVER HAPPEN

Simplifying the tax code takes a massive amount of power away from the political establishment which uses the tax code as a political tool. Take it away and they’d have to, you know, govern and do their jobs and stuff.

Swap income tax for a nation wide sales tax and you’ve got my attention. People should not be penalized for producing. They should be penalized for consuming.

Sorry…. do you know how the economy works?

Yeah, that's a no for me, Dawg.
There isn't a bigger National Retail Sales Tax advocate on his board than me, but viewing this in terms of penalizing anyone is off base.
How about let people keep the money they earn, spend it on whatever they choose, and keep the federal government small enough that the amount of funding needed is the smallest possible amount we could wrap our minds around?

That pays the interest on our debt and nothing else. No defense, no social security or medicine, or anything else.
To replace all taxes with tariffs and not run a deficit, we would have to have tarrifs at 175- 200%. And that assumes countries would still trade with us at those tariff levels.
Math is hard.

We do not need Congress' permission to change the tax laws. Or any laws, for that fact.
Article V of the Constitution of the United States is your friend.

Sales tax of Vat tax would capture the 50% who dont pay tax AND about 50 million illegals, all private jobs, the money would flow like wine.

No VAT. NRST is all that's needed. The tax base would jump from 155M tax filers to 250M consumers overnight.

The only problem with this is that the highest earners (mature workers) are at the height of their skill and earning while near the bottom of their consumption. Empty nesters with their houses, cars, furniture, appliances, etc. already paid-off. They would pay next to nothing while younger workers at the beginning of their careers and trying to start families would take the brunt of the taxation, which would lower birth rates even further.
We have to have a tax system that encourages family formation. We also need more suburbs instead of packing people like sardines into tiny apartments in the cities. Nobody wants to have 3 kids in a 900 square foot apartment.

This is materially and factually incorrect.
Here's the FairTax site where you're welcome to learn more about it.

It’s entertaining. The same people that say ”we need to stop imports to protect American workers!!” Are the same ones saying “we should fund the government in imports!” Do they want tariffs to “work” or not?
Honestly, cannot tell.

Indeed. Simple logic seems to be even harder.

20% tariff on all imported goods
plus
15% consumption tax
plus
10% retirement tax that is invested like a 401k and mine, not shared
(I suppose this could be optional, but I feel like the general public would be better served if it wasn't optional)
or something like this..
