I've been thinking back to when Tom Benson was wanting a new stadium after the successful 2000 season. I remember seeing the sketches, but I can't remember where the proposed location was going to be.

Think it was the West Bank. Funny how those mock ups look dated now when they looked so state of the art at the time.

It was upriver from the convention center, area called the river district where the new Civil Rights Museum will go:

Downtown Luling!! Off 310 bridge minutes from the airport.

Is that blue water in the top picture supposed to be the Mississippi River?

Yes. It matches the well landscaped stadium surrounds, and the superior pavement for streets and pedestrians with no surface water that NOLA is so famous.

As far as I recall, the main site being discussed was near the old Fisher Projects on the Mississippi River on the West Bank.

Retractable roof in Nola would be a beautiful disaster.

I love the dome being in the middle of the city.
It is a unique thing that not many sports franchises have.

What is funny is these designs are considered way outdated today.

Was it not blue 25 years ago? I don't remember.

What a cool story. What’s the backstory - Saints get first playoff win and Benson start pushing for it.
Always remember Benson fighting with the state for money.
Then, outta nowhere he struck gold with Brees.

The bottom photo was where the Iberville projects are located. That was never going to work.
Those two pictures were simply renderings done by the design, architecture, engineering, and urban planning firm HOK, which does a lot of sports facilities. They were commissioned by Benson himself simply as 'pretty picture' ideas, with no basis in physical or political reality.

I remember following on Saints Report.
There was a lot of talk about the team relocating to Biloxi area.

Solid endzones with helmet logos seems like an impossible dream.
On the bright side, the Superdome is better than ever
