Are we going to end up with the Runt of the litter?

Looking like it’ll be McCarthy….
Best case scenario is next 2-3 years is Top 5 pick level tanking and we stock pile a shite ton of draft picks and young talent. Then we start fresh with New GM & Head Coach with a #1 pick.

It doesn't matter who you hire, you're not doing anything with the roster and cap situation the way it is.

Yes because no one wants to be in cap hell

Worst Case Scenario… Mickey and Retread uninspired hire Putt along for the next 5 years teatering on .500 and never making the playoffs. The pick stay in the 13-15 range and Loomis squanders those picks.

Yes the Saints are the last chance U of the NFL.

Coaches/agents recognize the Saints are not in a good position right now to potentially have significant success. Coaches, with options, are reluctant to take a job where it is a high probability from the outset they will be fired in a few years for not winning enough...for a franchise not set up to win now.

is not the runt of the litter.
In fact...id bet he lasts near the top of the longest tenures of all the coaches that get hired this offseason

Prepare for a trash garbage retread that nobody wants.
Then prepare for at least 3 more years of getting crushed. I see 3 and 4 win seasons approaching.
The future is bright.
Entire franchise is a dumpster fire.

So many of us have been warning everyone that this job is the 7th or 8th “best job” out of 7 or 8 openings. A lot of people were in denial and didn’t want to accept it

Honestly the Saints aren't that attractive of an opening right now. No franchise QB and none on the horizon, old team that needs a total rebuild, salary cap mess.
The best thing for this team would probably be to have a good draft and go like 3-14 next year and draft a QB. The problem is with Carr we'll be just good enough to get 7-8 wins but miss the playoffs.

Anything less than an NFCCG appearance and I’ll be very upset

Best thing would be to follow the Texans approach after Bill O’Brien was let go. Hire a place holder for two years while you clean up the mess. Do it on the cheap and focus on staff hires to develop the young talent while getting more draft equity and resetting the cap.
Then go all in once you have the flexibility and can draft a young QB. I think fans would buy in if that is the approach.
If they try and “win now” and avoid the rebuild and prolong the cap hell fans will bail quickly. They already have lost a lot of fans with Mickey still there.

It did cross my mind, too. He needs a personal chef and nutritionist.

Exactly. I’d take him in a second over someone with no experience at the HC position. This team is going to be a very tough team to Coach and I don’t want someone who is getting his feet wet, to be coaching them. Cap problems aside.

Good idea. We could just hire Lovie Smith ourselves. Or that other bad minority coach the Cardinals fired after one year. Wilks. That way they tank and we get the Rooney rule DEI extra draft picks.
