I am surprised that there don't seem to be any power outages in south Louisiana being reported. Would this be more prevalent if it were a wet snow? I am not wishing this on anyone, just curious.

Too early...wait until the 12 degrees comes after a bit of melting. Also...unfortunately this will be more of a homeowners expense event such as roof repairs, plumbing issues etc.

Snow on tree limbs causing them to fall on power lines. It's fairly common in blizzards everywhere.

I've seen two notifications from the Neighbors app requesting snowball fight meet ups. The new Sonic?

A. Snow is not that heavy.

B. This isn’t a blizzard.

Blue skies and 75 degrees has produced many a power outage throughout Louisiana.

Two things that make the situation distinct from that:

1. The types of trees normally seen around BR don't load up as much especially with dry snow. The problems are tight needled evergreens like pines, hemlock spruce etc but rarely does dry snow cause a big issue since it is not very dense and blows off easily. Go outside now and see if you see any trees with large accumulations, the deciduous trees don't have much surface area and the cypress trees limbs tend to point upward. Palms will accumulate a decent amount of snow and will bend over but they are rarely ones you need to worry about

2. this is a very dry snow at least in and around BR it doesn't have much weight

Thaw and refreeze is not an issue here unless you get freezing rain after the snow which isn't predicted. Even if it starts to thaw and refreezes the weight will be lower not higher in this case.

The major potential limb and tree problem in and around BR is freezing rain like it is everywhere. That adds much more weight than snow and it doesn't blow off. This is just not a situation where you will be lying in bed with the power out and everything is quiet except for the limbs and trees cracking, breaking, and falling which is common in areas with the right conditions. This doesn't mean there won't be a single outage but it isn't going to cause havoc with the grid.

Everyone should thank Entergy for their foresight and preparedness to deal with this event. I know everyone hates them, but so far they have met the task. Tomorrow will be interesting.

Some of our staff reported outages in Denham and Walker. I am in Walker and fortunately did not lose power.
