Reed would make a difference

I believe with him we beat SMU and Vandy. Mizzou would have been more competitive as would Ole Miss game. You can criticize MM all you want but losing him was huge for this particular team. Collins and Chest are still figuring it out as the had very little if any PT experience before this year. Collins is improving every game. And the freshmen, 2 Millers and Givens, are still adjusting to the physicality of the SEC. That's why Fountain and Williams PT needs to increase as they have experience with that. But anyone saying Reed wouldn't make a difference really is just a hater and has no knowledge of basketball. Not just his pts and rebounds but his ability to stretch the bigs creating room to drive the lane. His ability to bring the ball up the court taking some pressure off the guards and his ability to be physical with opposing teams bigs on defense as well as just his experience in SEC play.

Reed would make a 2-3 game difference in the SEC.

He 100% would help. Same with Ward.
That is still no excuse to look like an unorganized mess offensively. I want them to be successful and I am pumped they beat Arky/Calipari last night. Just hate the way they play. It is extremely hard to watch. (I will still watch every game the rest of the way)

I don't think any sane basketball poster is disagreeing. But I think its when you look at just how abysmal the offense was in the first 3 games in SEC play. No movement, no structure, just dribble and terrible screens (Which reed also would have helped with he can actually set a screen) that was causing the critiques. We are better with him but he is out We have to adjust, was yesterday the first day we figured it out without him? Hopefully we will see.
Both of these guys played a part in the win yesterday. Do one or both help in the SMU or Vandy game?

Yes I believe they do. Not sure what the issue was with Williams early in the season and Fountain is a good rotation player but at this time he brings more to the table than Milller. Curious to see how MM handles all of this when Vic comes back from the ankle. Also running Williams at point frees up Sears to do more of what he is good at.Scoring. If MM can figure this rotation out they have a shot at more than 3 wins. But Carter is still the key. When he can get going early like last night it opens the court up for the rest of the team and they have shown they can play elite defense. Did it first half Ole Miss. tonight they did it for 40 minutes. Our issues have been long scoring droughts 2-3 times during a game. Didn't have that last night. Still need to tone down the TO also. Playing SEC veterans may help with that.

I'd say they focused for about 30 minutes last night. They had 2 long scoring droughts during each half. Fortunately, so did Arkansas. If we can actually get closer to 40 minutes of focused play, then we can win a lot of SEC games.

100 percent agree . You watch the top teams and the ball movement that gets the ball to the open shooter for a better quality shot. Last night worked because we got fouled enough driving to the hoop and praying for a foul then actually excelled at the free throw line. I don’t see that as a long term success plan. There were plenty of times that we drove the lane and had wide open shooters that the ball could have been passed to. In my opinion driving the lane and kicking the ball out is a far better option. Leave the defense scrambling.

They focused on defense for 40 minutes and rebounding. If you include free throws then there were no scoring droughts, They got to the line and made them. It is what kept them in the game in the first half. Loved that they weren't settling for 3's. That's where Chest needs to improve his game. With his quickness and his jumping ability he should be getting 6-10 ppg. Collins is starting to get it. If Chest can also develop some offense other than rebound putbacks, this team becomes even better.

So driving the lane and getting to the FT line is something you don't like.LOL. That is actually an offensive philosophy in some games. I loved the fact they were taking it to the hole. In fact Collins and Chest need to get better at that. Got Ark into the bonus quicker and helped LSU stay in the game until the outside shooting started to warm up.

The only Reed who would make this team competitive in the SEC is Willis.
In his prime.
In his prime.

Say you don't know basketball without saying you don't know basketball.

You have to have a good filter to sift out all the stupidity and basketball ignorance on this site. The sad fact is very few who follow LSU bball here and post know much about the game. And I can no longer excuse it mostly to Will Wade bitterness.

Injuries are part of the game

Obviously, you didn't see Mizzou destroy KU and UF

You actually don’t know basketball and you have made that quite evident. I do agree with you that Reed would have made a difference on this team but our team is still not very good.

Oh is THAT what was causing the hesitation and distraction, haha? Cuz I was there and frustrated as hell that they’d work and work, somebody would finally get a lane open up and drive to the basket…
..then stop and hesitate, get uncertain, wait to get swarmed over instead of putting up a shot- no confidence. Snooze you lose…

I don't know of anyone who has said he would not. How much? We'll never possibly know unless we played the same season in an alternate universe with him and compare.
I'd say 2-3 SEC games tops but hey, 2-3 games is significant. Could mean 4-5 wins instead 2 or 3.

Agreed, but I'm not sure about Fountain right now. He has no suddenness or physicality when he drives. Maybe he will step it up, but he looks tentative to me. Collins is coming on. He looks more confident each game I attend.
This team seems to really like each other, a lot of cohesiveness between the players and the coaching staff. It's nice to see.
That #3 for the Hogs was quiet last night, but that kid is an NBA body ready to tear somebody up. We caught Arkansas at a good time, but the rematch later might be a different story.

Of course he does and to think otherwise is foolishness.
