What was your first fine dining experience?

I have to say that mine was a trip to Lafittes Landing (John Folse's original place in Donaldsonville) when I was a sr. in high school. A girl I was friends with worked for a law firm and this was where they had their firm Christmas dinner. This was the first time I had ever worn a coat to a restaurant, sat with anyone who had ordered a bottle of wine, or seen a waitress use a "crumb scraper". Talk about redneck out of place.

Morton's in Orange County, CA. Fine enough to be considered I guess.

My first trip to A&W Root Beer "in town" in about 1961. I couldn't believe that someone cooked for us and even brought it out to us too!

Lot's when I was a child...momma didn't cook much, and I could only take so many Tuna casseroles.
But the first restaurant I took a date to was Little Italy on Allelo dr.. We had whiskey sours and some great Italian food all at the sweet age of 15.

When I was 6-7 I recall that my grandparents took us to Louis XVI, Broussard's, and La Riviera...this where my love of dining out began.

Mirror Steakhouse when I was about 12 (1972) for my Bday. I was hooked on "Fine Dining" at that point and this outing was my Bday present for years to come after. It was the first time I ever saw a Lobster and I thought it was a huge arse Crawfish.............

July 14, 1971 my grandparents took me to Antoine's for my sixth birthday. I still remember loving the souffle potatos, trout amandine, and of course baked Alaska. The origin of my passion for food. Thanks Ma Mere for your education on one of lifes great pleasures.

We did not eat out a lot when I was growing up, but a few times a year we would go to Galatoires and Commanders to practice our manners.
I remember eating in the Queens Room at Antoines when I was about 9 for a Krewe brunch. I was so thrilled that they gave me my own loaf of french bread that I ate the whole thing and didn't have room to eat anything else.

From what I can remember it was High Cotton in Charleston, SC. I was about 19. Unfortunately, I never really got to go to expensive restaurants as a kid.

Me neither. Until I got to be 15 or so, it was Sonny's Barb-que for special occasions and the trips to McDonalds ar Pizza Hut every now and then. My mom always cooked.
