First and goal at the 1YD line…

Texas and the Commanders both line their QB seven yards deep and promptly lose five yards when a QB sneak x4 is a guaranteed TD…it isn’t rocket science yet these football coaches can’t figure it out. How embarrassing

Truly crazy that every team doesn't have a tush push option lined up for themselves.

If you don’t have a Hurts type QB then use an athletic TE like the Ravens…I mean Texas had Arch Manning and didn’t use him. It’s baffling.

The % of overall snaps a QB takes in shotgun now is insane and going under center is increasingly a rarity
Coaches probably aren't following the math correctly but fear of bad exchange is driving a lot. Less (but still very high) odds of a TD from shotgun vs. under center, but in shotgun the cost of failure is more likely to be 3 points as opposed to 0

Too many OCs have fell on love with the read option. They like shotgun because the quarterback has space to see the field, make, call audibles, etc.
But when it's 4th and inches, on the goalline, you don't need to be reading anything. Good ole information. Lineman just block the man in front of you, push the pile forward. It's that simple. Stop overthinking things. You can play more fancy when you're at the 5 yard line.

JJ Watt said the Bush push was impossible to stop.
Seasoned CFB fans used to hate when the tailback lined up 5 yards deep on 4th and 1.....now it's the quarterback and the RB is behind him.
What are we doing? Situational formations are a lost art.

QB sneaks and HB Power in short yardage situations aren't "creative" enough for 99% of offensive coordinators.

The Ravens using Mark Andrews as the QB with the monster fullback and Derrick Henry behind him is the way to go.

In yesterday's playoff game, Jalen Hurts threw a drop back pass after lining up under center, with no play action involved, for the first time.
In his entire NFL career.

Nothing makes me more irrationally angry then watching a team I want to get a 4th and 1 or score from the 1 not get under center and just push forward.
If little Drew Brees could do it effectively, no excuse anyone can't.

I thought Texas' play calling was excellent in that situation...

Thats the crazy part that more teams seem to not study what Brees was able to do in these types of situations. As another poster stated, you snap the ball, let your oline get a hat on a hat. Only difference was Brees would pause for a 1/2 second to find his gap to jump. I am sure he's reading the flow of the line while also watching where that LBer or Safety is creeping up. Make your big jump, extend the ball, then pull it back. You either get the TD, or you are right back where you started at the LoS.

Yeah, Hurts is a cheat code with the QB sneak. The only thing close to him would be a tight end. He takes the snap and is moving forward in one motion, while at the same time having the vision to veer left or right. Having his lower body strength is freakish as well. Speaking of TEs, that run after catch last night by Goedert last night was amazing. It explains why the Eagles are so successful at the sneak when he is pushing Hurts.
