Woooooow…

Was not expecting it to be the funniest I seen from last year. It’s one of the best of 2024. I love how the movie starts out as one thing, and then switched up completely into another.

Mikey Madison should win the Oscar for her performance.

The ending was heartbreaking yet beautiful at the same time and really puts an exclamation point on a fantastic movie.

Description on Wikipedia makes it sound like a drama/tragedy

Totally agree with this. Saw it several weeks ago and it’s easily my favorite movie of 2024. Unless I’m blown away by The Brutalist, it will be my pick for the Oscar as well.

Mikey and Russian Timothee Chalamet did great, but I think the real stars of the movie were the goons called in to fix the problems. They were all hilarious and once the movie turned into a road trip, they really started to shine.

All three kinda stole the show. Best way to describe this movie is Cinderella meets Uncut Gems and Malibu’s Most Wanted

Saw it last night. I was not expecting a screwball comedy in the middle of the movie but damn that part was hilarious (crawling around jersey shore looking for the son).

A great movie for sure.

It's between her and Demi Moore. Madison won the BAFTA this evening over in England.

They were in Brighton Beach. Which is a Russian neighborhood in Brooklyn. I’ve always associated it with depression since GTA 4

Cynthia Erivo is in the mix.

Doubtful. Though we'll see what SAG does. The betting odds favor Demi Moore though that might change after Mikey Madison's win tonight at BAFTA.

Finally caught this on Prime last night. Hell of a movie

Solid call

Odd sidenote maybe. After an entire era of the “femme fatale” outsmarting all the bad guys and wrapping the movie with a huge win, I reallly wanted to see Ani walk away with a major bag of cash or something . The ring and 10k was cool, but the billionaire family were horrible, the kid worst of all. Wish she’d have played hardball over the annulment. But clearly it wasn’t about money for her

JUST watched it. Started off slow, but ended up being pretty solid. Thought it was longer than it should have been though. Mikey Madison was good too.

The scene where the three dudes showed up and were introduced in the middle of the movie was a great scene too. Best part of the movie.

Saw this review online and I think it sums up the movie well.

quote:

Title: An Abomination in the Name of Cinema – Anora is a Cinematic STD

From the moment Anora starts, you can feel your soul slowly deteriorating, like a cockroach drowning in expired milk. This film is not just bad; it’s a war crime against storytelling. If suffering had a form, it would be sitting through this festering pile of cinematic sewage. The plot? A wretched fever dream of degeneracy. A stripper and a trust fund brat? We’ve seen better dynamics in public bathroom graffiti. The romance here is like watching two drunk pigeons fight over a cigarette butt—pathetic, pointless, and somehow sticky. The characters? About as deep as a dried-up puddle of spilled beer. Anora is meant to be complex, but she has the personality of a damp napkin. Vanya, the rich brat, is so insufferable that you’d rather spend three hours listening to a baby scream on an airplane than watch his antics. Their chemistry is like mixing vomit and regret—just because it’s happening doesn’t mean anyone wants to see it. The visuals? Filth smeared on a camera lens would have been a more compelling aesthetic. The lighting makes you feel like you’re in a gas station restroom at 3 AM, and the pacing is so sluggish it feels like the movie was filmed underwater in syrup. And let’s talk about the experience—watching Anora is like licking the floor of a strip club after closing. Every second drags you further into an existential crisis, questioning every life choice that led you to this moment. By the end, you’re left feeling unclean, like you need an exorcism and a tetanus shot. This isn’t just a bad movie—it’s a public health hazard. If Anora was a person, I’d file a restraining order. If it was a food item, it would be banned by the FDA. If it was a smell, it would be the inside of a garbage truck on a hot day. Final verdict? Watching this is an act of self-harm. I wouldn’t recommend this to my worst enemy. In fact, if someone enjoys this movie, cut them out of your life immediately—they are beyond saving. Rating: -100/10. Burn it. Bury it. Pretend it never existed.

That was one of the worst, pretentious, self indulgent, cunty things I have ever read.

If that didn’t at least make you crack a smile you’re in the 10% of people that actually like the movie and not told to like it. You probably love Parasite.

I agree. I also think it was a mediocre movie.
