Islam, at its core, is a religion based on conquest. Its patriarch was a war leader who spread Islam through war, not preaching.
Indeed, up until like 100 years ago, the concept of preaching, “spreading the word”, etc was foreign to Muslim theologians.

And the odd thing is that Muslims don't read those religious texts. Illiteracy among Arabs is the norm even today. So, they rely on the verbal messages of their religious leaders.

Considering Islam is based upon a false worldview of victory by force, it would make sense that they can feel a little loose with their morals. The natural person has a heart bent toward sinful rebellion against the thrice-holy God, and Islam gives warrant for many sinners to justify their sinful desires in the name of a "righteous" cause.
