Seeking Alpha needs to lower its subscription costs so threads like these are unnecessary. Ridiculous annual fee to read a bunch of articles from amateur stock analysts

No kidding.
I was particularly interested in Steve Cress’s top ten picks.
His top ten last year returned 125% this beating the S&P 5x’s over

I signed up for a month to get the picks, and to have access to some analysis.

Top ten in order:
OPFI - finances low credit
PYPL - PayPal. Largest company on the list…
EAT - Owns Chili’s
LRN - Edtech
URBN - Clothing
AGX - Power plant builder
DXPE - sells industrial goods
CLS - Top 10 for 2nd consecutive year
INTA - Cloud software
CRDO - Data center connectivity equipment

One big loser that was -37%
One lost less than 1%

8 of 10 were green
and 7 of 10 finished the year up by at least 49%

Impressive.

It feels like none of these guys stay on top, though. They have a good year, or two, and are replaced with others that pick better for the new year.

OPFI - finances low credit

What’s the recent fascination with this sector. Someone posted about Nubank a few weeks ago. We seem to have come full circle from “it’s a bad idea to just give everyone credit,” to “check out this fintech that targets the indigenous population of the Amazon.”

My guess is that we all know the loans they're writing are absolutely insane for the borrower but they know how to structure a portfolio to be profitable and possibly wildly profitable. In a down economy I imagine the risk is insane but in a flat or decent economy it's very lucrative.

Pypl was a good one for me last year. I plan to pick it back up when the risk/reward is more favorable.

lets keep this list and look back in a year. Most likely he's giving you info that makes it look like he picked all those winners in 2024. Or he's picking with a million other bums and just so happen to be the one to guess good the most. If you weren't on him at the start of 2024 to verify exactly what he picked , I wouldn't believe it.

Looks like to me like a bunch of picks that have already run up. If the market does have a correction then you could probably cut all of those picks in half .
