Elvis Presley is a musical legend who brought rock music to the masses. However, the King of Rock and Roll isn’t without his detractors. Some point to his pursuit of younger—and underage—women or the fact that he performed music that was, at the time, predominantly the music of Black artists.
Recently, one critic made their feelings about Elvis clear when they defaced his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Reddit user GrungeCowboy73 took to the Elvis community to share a photo of the defaced Walk of Fame Star. “Can’t believe this desecration in Hollywood,” the user wrote in the post’s caption. The photo shows the star with Presley’s name crossed out in permanent marker. Above his name, the vandal scrawled the word “Racist.”
Comments on the post revealed that the Redditor, a Los Angeles resident, went to visit Presley’s star on New Year’s Day and found it defaced. Further comments from locals indicated that this was not the first time the Walk of Fame had been vandalized.

Took them longer to write the clickbait article than it would've taken to wipe that marker off with a paper towel and some Windex.

good grief. i guess there's not enough water in CA to pressure wash the sidewalk around it either.

When people say this shite, do they ever stop to think that maybe he was just better at it?

I'm sure that the response to this incident will be similar in scale and prosecutorial vigor as incidents involving tire marks on rainbow crosswalks.

Cultural appropriation - the act of taking cultural elements from a group other than one's own, often without understanding or respecting their significance. It can involve using cultural imagery and materials, such as music or dress, in ways they were never intended.

“When Elvis appeared he was already a big, big star. Remember this was the fifties so for a young white boy to show up in an all-black function took guts. I believe he was showing his roots and he seemed proud of those roots. After the show he made a point of posing for pictures with me treating me like royalty. He’d tell people I was one of his influences. I doubt whether that’s true but I like hearing Elvis give Memphis credit for his musical upbringing.
Back in 1972, Elvis helped me get a good gig at the Hilton Hotel while he was playing in the big theater. He put in a call for me and I worked in the lounge to a standing room only crowd. Elvis fans came in different colors but their love for good music was all the same. They were always a good audience.
Many nights I’d go upstairs after we finished our sets and go up to his suite. I’d play Lucille [King’s guitar] and sing with Elvis, or we’d take turns. It was his way of relaxing.
I’ll tell you a secret. We were the original Blues Brothers because that man knew more blues songs than most in the business - and after some nights it felt like we sang every one of them. But my point is, that when we were hanging out in the Hilton in the 70s, Elvis had not lost his respect, his ‘yes sir’, his love for all fields of music. And I liked that.” - B.B. King

I don't care if this world lasts another 20 million years there will never be another Elvis Presley. Some folks just can't handle the fact that The Greatest Entertainer ever happened to be a White Southerner.

Probably vandalized by a young white girl saving the country.
Elvis was one of the kindest souls.. What a shame now that people are trying to create a name for themselves (Media writing bloggers) who are using Elvis by slandering his name.

When people say this shite, do they ever stop to think that maybe he was just better at it?
Or, that he expanded the audience for such music which created a receptive white audience for black R&B?

I guess they kinda do with basketball. Otherwise there would be uproar over black people "appropriating" our white person created sport. Same with football.
But heaven forbid white people be good at something created by another culture
quote:
SANTA CRUZ, Calif. (AP) — For some Native Hawaiians, surfing’s Olympic debut is both a celebration of a cultural touchstone invented by their ancestors, and an extension of the racial indignities seared into the history of the game and their homeland.
The Tokyo Summer Games, which open July 23, serve as a proxy for that unresolved tension and resentment, according to the ethnic Hawaiians who lament that surfing and their identity have been culturally appropriated by white outsiders who now stand to benefit the most from the $10 billion industry.

Elvis was loving towards towards all races, but especially the black race. When his daughter was born he told Nancy Sinatra how he felt so bad for less privileged kids (specifically black). I mean to actually be thinking about that while his daughter was being born shows he had a good heart. He constantly took up for his hand picked black musicians and constantly insisted they be treated well.
It's sad people are ignorant enough to still believe some ridiculous rumor.

and the greatest songwriter was Otis Blackwell
quote:
Blackwell was one of the leading figures of early rock and roll, although he was not well known by the public. His own records never cracked the Top 40, yet he wrote million-selling songs for Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Dee Clark and others. Blackwell composed more than a thousand songs, garnering worldwide sales of close to 200 million records.Blackwell was one of the most important innovators who helped invent the musical vocabulary of rock and roll at its very beginning. His works have been recorded by a host of major artists, including Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Ray Charles, Otis Redding, James Brown, The Who, Johnny Thunders, Billy Joel, James Taylor, Dolly Parton, Conway Twitty, the Judds, Carl Perkins, Lonnie Lee, and Peggy Lee, among numerous others.
