It's time for the annual King Cake thread! Let's all argue about a LA tradition.

Is it "just a big cinnamon roll" or something different?

Have you looked at the price of them? Shipping??? Forget it!

Is Rouses garbage compared to Haydels or Gambinos?

Filled or Original?

Just the P/G/G granulated sugar or icing too?

Has anyone found a decent McKenzie's duplicate yet?

Filled king cakes are garbage and need to be outlawed.

I am sick of waking in to buy a regular king cake only to find them all sold out but the shelves piled high with cream cheese and jelly filled king cakes

I’ve made them. It’s the same basic recipe.

How much do yall pay for a king cake?

I live nowhere near Louisiana, and saw one in the grocery store bakery for $13.99.

That’s how I feel about Southern Maid’s. It’s awful how delicious it is.

The basic ones are glorified cinnamon rolls but cinnamon rolls can be good.

I like the filled ones.

My favorite is the strawberry from Maurice’s. That is a unique one that doesn’t resemble a cinnamon roll.

My top 3 (all very different styles)

Randazzo’s (manny)
Duong Phong
Hi Do

There’s a lot of one offs and shite but of the main king cake brands in the Nola area, these are top 3 imo

I grew up on the "big cinnamon roll" version so that's what I like. Yall can keep that donut crap. And guess what? I don't like filling either
