The Saints insiders ….

I consider Ross Jackson, Nick Underhill, and Triplett to be Saints insiders. They each have said that the Saints will be in great cap shape after next season. Basically, Loomis did push cap hits out and last year started slowly clearing up the cap. It is a multi year process.
2025 season is going to be bad. No doubt about it. But,if you plan for it and expect great rewards on the other end (no longer in cap he’ll and a top 6 pick ina good QB draft),then I think it’s worth it.
- Hire a coach who can build positive culture this first year and is comfortable w a multi year process.
- Draft a big class in2025. Lots of players to build depth. No more trading up desperately
- Suffer through few wins in 2025 season.
-2026 : really build exciting pieces.

Part of the reason they are insiders is that they have to sunshine pump for the organization so they can get fed some scraps
Loomis will have to push some dead cap into 2026 and even 2027. Probably a lot more than they are letting on into 2026.
I'm sorry but I cannot see any sunshine as long as the same people at the top are in charge.

We have a last place schedule because we are a last place type of team

2027 is the year that should be circled
Spend 2025 and 2026 acquiring draft capital
Cut or trade Carr, eat the money, enjoy your top 5 picks in 2025 and 2026. Find your QB one way or another

I 100% agree and its what should have been done the moment Brees retired.
However, I have little faith they will do that based on Loomis's history and statements

Do you actually think that this front office is planning on this? This is the same front office who thought they could win a superbowl post Drew Brees and continued to frick the cap every year even though we are arse.
In a perfect world and in a well run organization with actual leadership, yes your dream scenario happens. See the Lions. We are not the Lions as long as Loomis is here.

Agree that 2027 should be the year, assuming the front office actually takes the proper approach to clear cap and not trying to sign "that one guy" to help us make a run.
The way I see it, Saints are $67M over the cap (per OTC) in 2025 with 49 players under contract, and need about $12M for rookies (could be higher due to higher pick and annual rookie contract increases). That means they need to push at least $79M into future years.
Currently $52M under the cap in 2026 with only 25 players under contract. Assume only $79M is pushed into future years, we can safely assume $30M to hit 2026 cap, and another $12+M for rookie class. That puts us about $10M under the cap, but still need to fill the roster - maybe another 25 players after counting 2025 & 2026 rookie classes just to get to the 53 man roster and 10 man PS?

Then you wake up and realize Loomis is still GM

I love your post as it gives me hope because there is a way forward.
Now, they need to make competent hires at all coaching positions and then be disciplined in the draft and get solid talent. That's a much bigger ask of this administration.
We'll see.

real unfortunate we're looking at a minimum of two more irrelevant seasons when this was all pretty easily avoidable. If only mickey had a real boss that could hold him accountable for this mess, sundays will continue to be red zone only I guess

I don't necessarily disagree with the thinking of the front office on keeping Payton's staff together and running it back, but the execution and the latitude given was terrible. If we were in a division with the Chiefs or the Lions, we probably would have blown it up. But we have been in the division hunt until the last week for 3 years until it all fell apart. Every year, the goal of this team should be to win the division and see what happens in the playoffs. We were pretty damn close for 3 years.
With all that being said, you absolutely accumulate talent and draft picks and blow this team up now.

We don’t even have a frickin head coach yet and you are circling years?

Our money situation has nothing to do who the next HC is

this^^^. carr is better than rattler right now, but i'd just assume cut carr as a post june 1st designation and give rattler a shot given the circumstances. no qb was gonna do a whole lot with our oline and wr situation this year. carr may have won us another game or two, but then we'd be in the same situation with worse draft picks.

This but hire a cut throat bastard coach who identifies the fat and cuts it. Camp at Jackson Ms community College in 2026 and find out who wants to be in the NFL.

All the teams that are in the playoffs have all or 2/3 things put in place to win. Ownership, coaching, and good qb play. Detroit fits 2/3 , but the longtime owner has gotten it right. Every team that missed the playoffs doesn't have at least 2/3 criteria.

The Saints should be a very attractive spot compared to the other current openings.
Bears and Jets have horrible ownership, which is huge for a HC. and have big expectations year 1
Saints
-proven loyalty to head coaches
-proven to give HC independence
-low expectations year 1
-top 10 draft pick
-salary cap can be fixed this year, if not after year 1
-bad division
The Saints are more attractive than people think.

I don't see how they can be in great shape after next season. They have $48 million in dead cap for 2025, that is a number they can do nothing to change it. They still have another $20 mil +- to get under the cap. There are no big contracts they can lower without going further down the road with unproductive player eating a roster spot and cap $$. These are aged players that cost more to cut than keep.
