Is there a particular band you saw in their early days that eventually became famous?

Not bands but Nora Jones and Grimes.

Arcade Fire
Drove through a blizzard from St Louis to Colombia, after telling my friend we have to do this, they are going to be big.
Got to the dive bar early and ended sitting with the band in a booth and chatting about their first album Funeral, why it was named as such, and afterlife theories.
Then they played a great set, but what blew my mind, that nearly after every song they switched instruments. Six years later, they won album of the year at the Grammy’s.

Saw them open for the Unicorns at One Eyed Jacks (or was it still the Shim Sham?) in 2004... Then they came back in Jan 2005 a few month after Funeral was released to play the Parish Room... They started blowing up, so it was moved to the main room at HOB.. both were great shows!
Also, saw My Morning Jacket at the Hi-Ho Lounge in 2002.. fricking incredible and they rocked so much harder than their record..
I can probably name a lot more, but it depends on the definition of "Big"

Big fan of the Unicorns. Great unknown album.
Saw MMJ at the Bham theatre in 2010. Spoke with Jim James after the show for 20 minutes, disagreeing with his philosophy on Ken Wilber. Four days later I caught them in Atlanta. Drummer invited me into their bus before the show.

Hall and Oates.
They were a back up to the back up band. I thought they were really good and thought they could go places.
I think the headliner was Brownsville Station.

Billy Joel's first gig, opening for The Beach Boys. He was no Elton John. I was not impressed.

I saw Corrosion of Conformity open for Iron Maiden in 1992. They had been a skater band for awhile, but were way bigger when Pepper took over 2 years later.
I saw Candlebox open for Rush in early 1994. They blew up right after that.
311 at the Varsity many times.
