NFL insider says Saints appear to have interest in these two veteran head coaches
quote:
NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero made an appearance Tuesday on "Good Morning Football" and dropped a couple of hints as to whom the Saints might pursue to replace Dennis Allen
quote:
First, Pelissero mentioned New Orleans as one of many teams "doing homework" on veteran coach Mike Vrabel
quote:
The other name Pelissero mentioned was one familiar to Saints fans who followed the team's offensive coordinator search a year ago: Former Buccaneers and Raiders coach Jon Gruden, who hasn't coached in the NFL since he resigned in Las Vegas after his offensive emails from years earlier surfaced publicly.
Pelissero said that Gruden could have become the Saints offensive coordinator if he had wanted it.
"It's not to say for sure that Jon Gruden will be back, but there are multiple teams that are doing extensive homework on Jon Gruden, the situation, him as a coach, him as a person," Pelissero said. "I would not be surprised at all if in the coming weeks, you see Jon Gruden's name popping up interviewing for a head coaching job."

I'd take Chucky in a fricking heartbeat.
At least the team won't be full of pussies

Would be a great hire if it was 2002. But it’s 2025.

Beggars can’t be choosers. No one worth his salt is coming to take over this dumpster fire. Gruden would be a solid hire under the circumstances.

I'd love to have him. But I've been told he loves UT and has been waiting on the Vols HC job to open up

It wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world if Mickey would stop acting like we have a roster ready to compete. Gruden seems like a coach Mickey would try to trade up for players for, push money to make splashy signings, etc instead of actually getting this roster/cap a bit healthier.

Would take Vrabel in a heartbeat.

Given the Saints being in salary cap hell, they made need to make a reach on a coach like Gruden.

Bingo. Saints will have to find someone looking to move up or looking for a 2nd chance. We are fricked because of Loomis and gave a ways to go before they can make significant changes

He’s had opportunities to go there before.
Gruden will never be the Tennessee HC.

agree. The man needs an ego check in the worst way.
He did hit a homerun with the Payton hire but it's time to move on.
I think Payton got tired of the Yeomen type work load he was doing with the Saints. Mickey doesn't strike me as a guy with even just a good football acumen.
that's why he's hiring former executives like Mueller and Ziegler. And there was a reason those gentlemen were unemployed as well.
I'd like to think that whoever had Gayle's ear to fire DA, is also encouraging to make a decision on Mickey.

I like Gruden but with the way Goodell holds grudges I sure would worry about the league making things tough on us if he were our coach

Is his suit against the NFL still ongoing to find out exactly who inside the League office leaked his private emails to the press?

I would take Gruden or Vrabel without hesitation.

Vrabel is really strange. I thought he was a good HC. Why did he not get a job elsewhere? What skeletons does he have in the closet? He seems like a good coach. I'd take either one of these.

Gruden is a shite coach who won a fluke superpower with Dungy's team. Whoever hires him will fail, again.

He was doing pretty good with Raiders before the NFL decided they'd oust him. Raider's ain't exactly a good organization.
He also took a horrible QB in Carr and gave him his best season that was very close to being MVP-like. If you ask me, he's a magician to get that kind of performance out of Carr that nobody else could.
