Seems like a very silly reason to close the markets for the passing of a 100 year old man. Has the precedent been to shut the market down for the passing of other presidents?

Strange. Do something like a moment of silence at the opening ahead of the bell.

Yes, of course. They did it for Bush in 2018.

Not to be an a-hole, but outside of his immediate family, I don't think there will be very many people actively mourning the loss of Jimmy Carter at the age of 100. Just seems very arbitrary and unnecessary.

Yes pretty much the norm.

Bush in 2018, Reagan in 2004

Why not just use the metrics of his era to report on inflation for the day,

Tradition is tradition. How many people truly set aside time for the intended aspects of things like Veterans Day and Memorial Day?

This country fetishizes its presidents. I personally think it's weird, but you probably won't be surprised to find I don't get a say.

Yes on precedent, but the real kicker is the jobs report comes out the next morning at 7:30... Sneaking suspicion either this one or the one in February will be where the government comes clean just in time for the inauguration.

Oh yeah, and RIP Carter.

Yes, I would expect that day to be a federal holiday and the NYSE generally closes for federal holidays
