There are no excuses. The temps are warmer. There has been plenty rain it seems way above average YTD rain, and gas prices are relatively affordable at $2.50 a gallon in some place. NO excuses. It should be cheap this year.

What do you consider cheap?

Last year did indeed suck, but for 2022 and 2023, prices were pretty good considering the inflation situation.

They'll find a reason to keep the prices high as a giraffe's arse like usual.

They'll charge more this season to try to make up for last season.

Place in sulphur is at $8.99/pound. This time last year they were $14.99 or $15.99/pound. So I’ll take that as a good sign

Have the farmers ever said “prices will go down”?

I was told by dealers that Texas restaurants will pay $1 or more per pound what the rate is in Louisiana. So dealers ship to Texas because it's a huge market therefore driving the prices up here until the spillway kicks in

They pay the wholesalers much better. And they demand larger crawfish. As far as the wholesalers are concerned they can drive a truck to a single location and get paid 25% more, or they can hit 10 smaller locations in Louisiana and get paid less.

More and more farms are opening in East Texas though so hopefully it eventually helps us over here in Louisiana to lower our prices.

McDonald’s brought the McRib back about 4 days too soon. Unfortunately, we’re gonna have to pass that financial hit to consumers at about $1.09/lb

It sucks but it’s not something we can control, sorry bud

I fell in love with shrimp again when the prices started going crazy years back. Then I found a reasonable blue crab source so I've adjusted. But like crabs they will push crawfish out of sight. Hope you're right about those east Texas growers. I blame all the LSU grads taking over Texas lol....

Temps are too warm, we had too much rain, Trump got elected, LSU didn’t win enough football games, so prices will be high again. At least until Easter, after which they will magically come down.

They will say that the small crop last year got over harvested and didn’t leave much seed crop for this year .

East Texas will never affect the crawfish market. Water is scarce and expensive. There’s a limit on the amount of water they can use. There won’t be anymore crawfish production in East Texas it’ll actually get fewer and fewer.

Prices will be what they were in 2021/2022. It’s been a similar start quantity wise to those years with a similar price for December. So whatever you paid those years expect to pay similar. Prices shouldn’t go up anymore than they are now.

He’s partially right. We had the warmest November on record. It helped them grow. So far the size has been really good for December.

Just wait for the excuses, they happen every year no matter what, farmers will ALWAYS come up with something

It's plain and simple...Texas (Houston and Dallas) is willing to pay higher prices so they sell to Texas and they charge us Texas prices.

For the last 15 years...the HEB in Conroe, TX has had cheaper prices on live crawfish than Tony's seafood. That should NOT happen.

I am NOT mad at the farmers for doing this...it's America...but don't bitch at me to buy LOCAL when you DO NOT sell local...at least not by the price standard.
