Auto insurance about to take another big jump....

When the Louisiana Supreme Court reviewed a nearly $19-million judgment awarded to a truck driver severely injured in a 2018 crash, justices determined a jury granted him and his family too much money and stripped away nearly 75 percent of the damages.
But the court issued a new ruling last week that reinstates much of the plaintiff’s original judgment.
The court's reversal could have broader implications for how courts decide whether and when juries in personal injury cases impose relatively large monetary damages.

Maybe one day we'll get an insurance commissioner who actually wants to...you know...help us out. That would be nice.

I pay more for insurance now on a 2013 Silverado than I did when it was brand new. And that’s with no tickets and claims. Insurance is the biggest scam there is. But knowing my luck, if I dropped it, I’d hit a deer tomorrow.

I just got a call from State Farm this week and my auto insurance went down 18%....

Won’t ever happen. When you have those leeching injury lawyers looking to kill companies or sink people lives over a fender bender just to take their 33%? It’s why we pay what we pay. Until judges stop taking stupid cases like “I burnt my lip on this pickle,” then only one way to go. UP! Pretty soon I’ll just shove all my assets in a trust and keep my uninsured car in my name. That way if I get in an accident and they try to sue. I got nuffin

Jeff Landry and his relationship with the legal industry will be his undoing.

Been in Michigan for the holidays, and it has been a really nice break from the personal injury attorney commercials.

Sweet, just in time for me to add two teenagers onto my policy.
I’ll be lucky to be able to afford a Bass Tracker instead of a Bass Cat now.

A 2013 doesn’t have the safety features new vehicles have so if you are in an accident, you’re more likely to be seriously injured. That cost insurance companies much more that replacing the vehicle.

From my observation working in the insurance industry for so long, the frivolous payouts usually happen without a jury so without knowing anything else about that particular case, I lean towards the man deserving much of that $19M award if a jury awarded it. It must've been a serious injury resulting from egregious negligence on the part of the other driver.
In my opinion, EVERY personal injury claim in this state should automatically go to a jury.

I dive a Ram that has been paid for for 10 years.
I could pay cash for a new truck in what I have paid in insurance over those ten years. Well…..at least a new truck at the price I bought that one.

Ah yes. It’s common knowledge that the biggest factor when insuring a 10-year-old truck is the possibility that you get sued by your own passenger after an accident. If he had a blind spot sensor, that risk would obviously be way lower.

Nah. You’ll only get the ones who promise to help you then do a 180 once in office.
Luigi did nothing wrong!

Fun fact, Michigan has the highest auto insurance rates in the nation, and has for many years.

The Court's reasoning on rehearing was so fricking strained.
I can only imagine what a hellhole this state would be if punitive damages were in play on a regular basis.

This is why I have avoided purchasing a motor car. They are the Devil’s work. My horse and buggy offer a delightful respite from the elements in a reasonable amount of time far away from your citadels of concrete and steel.
