Thinking about it a few more years down the road after my 3 snake trips to West Texas this year - Davis Mountains, Alpine, Marathon, Sanderson… I freaking love those little towns.

West Texas

I hope it stays desolate forever. There needs to be somewhere in this state that doesn't become a concrete jungle.

Alpine, TX is a special place.

Monahans is a solid West Texas town as well.

Grass is always greener...

Imagine no cell phone service at your house, no absolutely clean water like the city, living on a septic tank that always has the possibility of going out, spotty starlink internet, very limited television options, being bit up by mosquitos just stepping out the door...

Having to drive an hour round trip for milk or anything in general, no hospital close by for emergencies, packages get lost or take forever to arrive, wild animals terrorizing your property, garden, trash cans...

Shitty public school with no private options, going weeks without seeing another person, the people that you do see on occassion are uneducated hillbillies doing hillbilly things...

Start-up in a secluded area is harder, I will concede that..

..but, if you go into these places prepared and with the right mindset, you can get the ball rolling on a quality, tranquil way of life.

WTF are you talking about man?

Some of the things you list are bullshite (city water being clean), some are not really a big deal and even apply to ppl not in the middle of no where (septic issues), and some sound just plain nice

My dad lives in the middle of nowhere in East Texas. Down a road managed by a natural gas company. Like 65 acres.

Baw lives in a camper with a few generators, solar panels, dug a well, etc….

Nice setup. We hunt out there and bullshite when I go.

He moved there when he retired from working for a Fortune 500 for 35+ and shortly following his second divorce.

Yes. It's perfect.. no road access, have to fly or float in...
Most business is small and local.

That guy's post reads like he lives in the middle of a very congested city and doesn't know what its like being away from traffic.

I'm not in the middle of nowhere, but our houses are spread out. We are on a well, have a septic tank, I use Starlink, I have mosquitoes at my house, and I drive an hour round trip for milk. We have wild animals out here too. The horror. I just assume let them think it's terrible so there are fewer people who want to move out to my area.
