Anyone have experience with Toyota’s 3.4L V6?

I’m looking at possibly buying a used 2023 Sequoia and would like to hear some feedback on the new V6 in these larger trucks. Anyone have any issues? Read a few things online but didn’t see anything catastrophic.

I also looked at a used 2022 Yukon, but there seems to be issues galore with those based on reviews. Nice looking truck but not sure I trust a GM product to last long term.

I’m in the same boat, have a 21 Yukon with 92,000 miles and the 3.0 diesel. It’s been in the shop a lot and not the most reliable. I like the Sequoia but I’m worried it’s the same motor and Tundra engine recall and will suffer the same failures.

I think there is/was a class action lawsuit regarding the V6 TT...

Well shite, I didn’t see that. I read some reviews online but didn’t see anyone mention that.

I have a 2022 Tundra. 55,000 miles and no issues so far (fingers crossed). It’s pulled and hauled everything I’ve asked of it (boat, utility trailer full of dirt and sand, car trailer with a Tahoe on it). No problems. It even has a nice bit of giddyup to it with the twin turbo.

I previously had a 5.3 liter V8 Silverado. The tundra obviously has less raw power. But I really haven’t encountered a scenario where it couldn’t do something my old truck could.

Not flaming you.
Well documented in here.
Turbos are great when they work.
Emphasizing when they work.

My mom had a 2020 Lincoln Aviator with the turbo V6. It was very fun to drive, but turned into a complete POS around 20,000 miles. She ended up winning a lemon lawsuit over it and received 15k after lawyer fees.

I just always attributed the shittiness to Lincoln instead of the turbo engine, didn’t realize they were problematic.

Probably be a total engine replacement recall on the Toyota and transmission on the GM product

Lucky to have won a lemon lawsuit.
My Dad bought one of the last AMC’s and didn’t have a leg to stand on.

They’ve been great engines albeit with limited evidence so far.

The problems they were having was because of metal shavings and they’ve recitified it.
The engines that had the problems were completely replaced which is unheard of.

Toyota isn’t a company that will allow an engine to be a problem.

I’ve got two of those engines in the driveway. I did get warranties for the first time on both. If you get a 2023 and it’s under 36k miles, you can still buy a factory warranty.

Manufacturing issues are usually much easier and cheaper to rectify than design issues. Given the specific issue and the lengths Toyota went to rectify it I would not be concerned about buying one.

They have not been replaced. Some have. Not nearly all of them.

IIRC they have to replace 100K engines.

Yeah, Toyota quality.

eta-If it was just a simple manufacturing issue they wouldn't have 100K engines to replace.

Just think, all she needed was one Toyota Sienna and you would be saved $100k.
