So what do ya’ll think about the Panama Canal?

I’m torn on this issue.
We built the damn thing…it’s of vital interest to national security and from what I read the Chinese are taking control of it.
That said, we gave it to Panama and taking it back would be a military intervention on a foreign country.
Which….is something we have no problem doing in the ME for completely shaky reasons. We have no issue intervening in the politics of other countries with no clear benefit to the US. So why not seize the Panama Canal and tell them to frick off if they don’t like it? Is Panama going to send their Navy to defend it? Is the United Nations going to get pissed and bitch at us?

We should absolutely reclaim it if Panama continues to violate the treaty we have with them.

I think it’s something that needs looked into because it’s not good that China controls it and we’re dependent on it.

I think there are more creative ways to take it back without military intervention. I’m assuming he would use the language in the treaty and financial terms?

I admit I know nothing of the agreement or why in the hell we would give it up.

The treaty requires that Panama alone operate the canal and that it always remain neutral. China and Panama seem to have struck a new bargain. Trump is now reminding Panama about FAFO.

We should 100% maintain control of that vital trade/logistics avenue in the western hemisphere. Just give it to China??
