Died at 65. Even though I wasnt a fan of the A's, it was hard not to admire Rickey.

Who wasn't trying to emulate Rickey in the front yard whenever you played baseball with the neighborhood kids?

One day of the all time greats. The stories about him are some of the best. Always referred to himself in the third person

My name is Ricky. Ricky don't die. Ricky stay in your memories.

With a runner on first and Ricky at bat, teams would throw him out at first rather than go for the double play. You couldn’t double him up so don’t try. If you went for the lead runner, Ricky would just steal 2nd. Who did you want on second base… Some guy from the bottom of the A’s lineup or Ricky Henderson?

1,406 stolen bases and 2,295 runs scored. Legendary.

I would play World Series baseball game on Sega and pick his team just to steal bases. Was super fast.

Greatest speech of all time when he got the stolen base record.

Anyone recall how he broke some record in the afternoon, & that night N. Ryan threw another no hitter.
Ryan got the press coverage, & RH insinuated it was racism.
Of course today the black player would scream it immediately, & would be backed up by tMSM

Obviously I never saw DiMaggio play or Cobb, but at his prime I might take Ricky over either.

Wow! Sad to hear. I was a big fan of his. Amazing hitter & baserunner. Rest in peace!

One of my heroes. Begged my parents to buy me some of those padded neon green mizuno batting gloves he wore.

I am legitimately sad. He was an absurd human being and I mean that in the best possible way. Everything about him was lovably absurd. And he may be the most fun player to watch in MLB history.
RIP .

Most know him for holding the stolen base record, but he also has crushed the most career home runs when leading off a game, with 81 home runs.
