We used to have to till, burn off and reshape the infield every February before the season started.

Lightpoles in the middle of the field. Pretty cool though that 52 years they had mettle poles and we are just now getting them at our rec fields.

I remember our coach sent us out to burn off the outfield, and our dumbasses let it get out of control and spread to some dudes pasture that was behind our field. This was 1985. We were let out of class at 15-16 years old to set fire to our outfield and keep it under control. How many firings and lawsuits would there be in 2024?

Exactly, every year it seems we had one go out of control.

But it was fun trying.

I'm on the back row with a chaw. They told us not to chew during photos, so just before they clicked the shutter, i moved it into my cheek...

Yeah, our all "columbia blue" uniforms were awesome. Didnt care for the navy tops.

We lost to Neville (Brister pitched) in the quarterfinals that year. Jesuit with Will Clark won.

I used to follow American Legion ball closely in the 1980s in NWLA.

Haynesville had a LHP named Kenny Knotts that played with one of the Shreveport/Bossier area legion teams

Those leagues were stacked! Terry Belle and Joey/Albert were there.

Bossier Phillies, Moore's Goodyear...those were a couple of teams I remember. The Shreveport Times was all over legion ball back then.

My younger brother played on some teams with the Belles. Their dad was my freshman HS football coach.

My younger bro also was the center on the 86 Airline basketball team that went 30-0, then lost to Lafayette in the first round of the playoffs. He was also an awesome baseball player for Airline.

Our legion team in Bossier drew from several schools so it gave us an advantage at the time. Most Shreveport schools had a dedicated legion team.
