True or false: LSU has benefited more from the transfer portal era than it has been hurt.

I tend to think both the transfer portal and NIL have been a net positive for LSU and will continue to be; however, I see panic often on this board every time the topic comes up.

True

But until it shows on the field, it’s all message board fodder

Is Womack the only one so far to sign with another school?

You see panic from this board 100% of the time. There are a group of poster here who just aren't happy unless they are worried/complaining about something.

Massively.

• Total rebuild from collapse to competitive viability and a divisional title in just one year
• Heisman Trophy winner
• Most of our losses went on to do nothing at less competitive schools, only a couple of genuinely good players that went elsewhere

And that's just football.

Look what it did for baseball. Skenes and Tanks helped bring us a championship. Others as well, but they stick out the most.

It goes both ways. There are also a group of posters that ignore problems and refuse to listen to anyone that has legitimate concerns. It's possible to be happy about some things that have happened and also skeptical about some things until it plays out.

True. Didn't even think about that.

It's definitely helped LSU athletics more than it's hurt. I'm not sure that can really be argued.

Wrong. Burrow was not from the portal. Heck the portal wasnt even a thing when he transferred.

He was a graduate transfer which is why he could play immediately. The transfer portal didn't start until October of 2018 when he was already our starting QB.

Maybe Burrow was before the transfer portal but Jayden Daniels was in it. So with 2 Heisman Trophy winners being transfers to LSU, hard to say it was close incoming vs outgoing. Even those aside, LSU got Lacy and Frazier multi-year starters...WR Daniels and some others for lesser time. The best player outgoing that made a difference to my memory was Ika at Baylor but he wanted to play in their different DL alignment. But as another poster said, the transfer portal is out of control so who knows what the future holds. This year, LSU seems to benefit dramatically net.

I think it’s fair to say we’ve added better players than we’ve lost in the portal

Getting players is cool. Winning with them would be better. Again, it doesn’t matter what players we get when BK is in charge of preparing these guys

Most of the guys that entered the portal likely aren’t ending up at our rivals or were committing hours after getting in the portal. LSU, on paper, seemed to make upgrades with all players transferring in so far this season. Football seemed to be lagging in NIL support the previous three seasons and things changed.

You’re missing my point. LSU has consistently benefited from being able to acquire talent from other schools who did not originally commit out of high school. Brand has a lot to do with that, and will continue to.
