My Dad Bribed an Entire Surgery Staff Today (Wholesome Story)

So my Dad was having an outpatient surgery today to remove some cataracts. Nothing major. My mother and I had been discussing how we could get him there, who was going to take him back to the house after, etc. They live about an hour away. After everything was scheduled, turned out all I had to do was sit in the waiting room for three hours or so while he was undergoing the procedure.
Office policy required a family member to be on the premises throughout the time they were pre surgery, during and post in case something happens.
So, I get there about 11 and my Dad motions me over, "Son, I need you to do something for me. These ladies have not had lunch. I need you to head to Chick Fil A and get lunch for 9 people and bring it back."
So, I did. Now, my Dad is a really nice man, and he does stuff like this all the time, but he's also canny.
He knows that if the staff starts rotating out from 11:30 to 1 to take lunch while he's in the back it's going to take longer for him to get out of there, and he HATES hospitals and waiting rooms.
So for $85 bucks in chicken nuggets, fries, sweet tea and lemonade, the old man convinced a whole staff to skip leaving for lunch so he could get out an hour or so faster.
And the did rush him through. Supposed to be out by 3 and went home at 1:30.
That old man makes me shake my head sometimes.

As I enter my mid 30s and my dad enters his late 60s, there are constant reminders to really cherish and revere what they do while they're here. Funny thing is, the quirks they have likely were passed down and we'll follow suit.
Cheers to them good baw dads

Not a thing candy about that. All smarts many people could learn a lesson from your father. You have to give to get in this world.

My Chinese friend went to the eye doctor and the doctor said “Sir you have a cataract”
My friend replied “No I don’t I drive a rincorn towncah.”

You know your dad was chatting up the nurses the whole time, and he learned their schedules, their hungers, their needs, and a little Chick-fil-A satisfied all 9 nurses.

My dad owned a commercial bakery. He never went anywhere without a case of cakes in the car: oil change, haircut, doctor appointment. He had cakes. Amazing the kind of treatment he got everywhere he went.

My local Walmart is where I have oil changes. I always go to bakery and buy a dozen donuts for them. Always get excellent service

My old man was the same. He was in heart cath recovery and he kept smelling something good. They kept it real cold in there. The staff had a hot plate and were warming their gumbo lunch. They had to bribe my Dad with gumbo to keep quiet about it.
When my Mom was in the hospital, he always brought donuts or cookies or something. My old man got a lot of good will doing that stuff

I don’t believe the story simply because I don’t think I can feed my family of 5 for $85 at Chick-fil-A…

I had to drive my dad home a few years ago after cataract surgery. Man I wish he were still here. I'd drive him to Alaska & back if I had to.

Bought breakfast for the whole nurse station at Women's and we got moved into a suite for the first child.
Needless to say I was raining kolaches and donuts on them for my other two kids.

That is an awesome story. I am going to try that when my dad goes in for his colonoscopy.

reminds me of my dad when I was growing up - and now with his Demntia getting really bad, I try to do the things he did like your example when I can.
feel it is paying homage and respect for the Man he was, and I hope to be a fraction of as I get older.
