The Chicago Cubs are acquiring Houston Astros outfielder Kyle Tucker in exchange for third baseman Isaac Paredes, pitcher Hayden Wesneski and prospect Cam Smith, sources told ESPN's Jeff Passan.

Let's see if that 1 year rental works out for the Cubs. I'm not unhappy with the trade, but still sucks to lose Tucker.

Do the Cubs plan on signing him long term? If not, then not sure what they're doing here.

GM trying to save his job and a cheap owner trying to save face. They need to get him extended because Cam Smith seems likely to be a star. This could go down as a big oops trade.

2 3rd basemen in the deal. Looks like the writing is on the wall regarding Bregs. He gone.
Also, is this is all they do? If so, what a total front office letdown.

We need Outfield help and I am pretty sure we have some money to sign one or two.

Had to start making the team better somewhere. They just added 5-6 wins if Tucker puts up his usual numbers. That takes them from 83 to 88, out of the playoffs to potentially in. They aren't done dealing either.

I wish they’d deal Happ and open up an outfield spot for Cassie. Get a proven third baseman or another starter.

Parades can play first base. That would my guess, I doubt they let Tucker and Bergman walk

Cam Smith plays 3B as well and seems to be as large a part of the deal as Parades. He is a top 100 prospect, 5th best 3B prospect and only a year out of Florida State. I think the Astros trading for two 3B under 25 yrs old is a definite that they aren't resigning Bregman.
They need to take the Bregman money and go get an outfielder(s).

I'll put it like this as a Cub fan - I'm thrilled.
The Cubs will try to sign him after this year but they probably won't, they are averse to long contracts and I'm sure that's what Tucker will want - like 10 years or so.
But I look at it this way - Paredes was not a good fit for Wrigley and he always looked uncomfortable hitting there. The Crawford boxes are perfect for his hitting profile and it opens a spot for our top minor league prospect Shaw to slot in there.
Cam Smith, it's gonna be probably 2 years before you even know if he's gonna be a true major leaguer, Cubs don't want to wait that long and neither do their fans.
Wisneski has potential but he's been very up and down, maybe the Astros can unlock something, I'm at this point ready to let some other team ride that roller coaster.
If all we get is one year - he's the best player on the Cubs for one year no question and it gives us a better shot at both making the post season and beyond than if we ran back our 83 win roster. I'm down.
If we can't re-sign him we'll have money to distribute in other ways to improve and we'll have some of our glut of talented outfield prospects like Cassie and Alcantara ready to show if the are major leaguers are not.
