I have been wondering how many fans and people that love to watch the sport of college football are leaving annually because of NIL and the transfer rule now? In my opinion, once money is introduced into any sport or situation for that matter, it ruins it, or at least taints it. This is why I do not like the NFL or the NBA. I feel like college football is declining in viewers now versus growing. What are your thoughts?

That’s a weird thing to have a “feel” about. I mean there are measurable numbers out there to know if viewers are increasing or decreasing.

People are disgusted but they are still watching, the ratings are higher than ever.

That may change the longer the portal madness continues without any consequences for transferring.

Much less interested in the results outside of LSU and the games that effect the Tigers.

Not really planning on sitting down and watching every playoff game.

Love or hate NIL, parity was higher than it’s ever been and this was one of the most entertaining seasons in recent memory. When was the last time you watched UGA vs Kentucky all the way down to the wire? No idea what the TV ratings will show but the hardcore fans aren’t gonna be able to completely tune out even if they bitch, and the nature of the games is going to pull in casual fans.

First question. Who is your favorite NFL team and when did you start watching them/do you keep up with them weekly like knowing the roster

Second question. Have you stopped watching LSU football and how well do you know the roster.

This. People get turned off reading about NIL but the games are as fun to watch as ever.

I was never huge into following recruiting, so maybe NIL bothers me less than most, but you don't need to follow recruiting year round. Just wait til the portal closes and the September rolls around and see where your team stands.

The people following the Underwood stuff daily set themselves up for sabotage. It doesn't matter what a recruit says until they sign, it's kinda always been that way. Now it's even less important cuz they can still end up somewhere else before they ever play a down (unless they start as a freshman, which isnt that common).

I didn't root for Joe Burrow or Jayden Daniels less because they didn't sign with LSU as Freshmen

For a year the sportsbook window in the palm of your hand will keep the business alive but what we loved about it will die

I watched more college football than normal this year (Caveat being I went to less games in person).

I will binge the entire playoffs.

People say they are leaving but still watch. Capitalism is great, but great when the consumer is informed and is capable of making decisions.

I think there’s a lot more passive fans of college football than die hards in this age.

A ton of people like going to the game so they can get an instagram picture in the stadium and leave at halftime.

There seemed to be many more upsets. Upsets became the norm. The chaos drove higher ratings. NIL and the transfer portal has created more parity.

Whether you like professional college football players or not, popularity seems the same but trending higher. Buy more popcorn and beer.

I heard a while back some radio guys talking about the fact that the NFL was actually the purest form of football post PeeWee football. All the rest of it is riddled with people skirting the rules to get players on their teams. The NFL is honest about what it is all about. I initially laughed at the notion but it only took me a minute to realize there is some validity in that. And when I say a while back I mean 5-10 years ago, before all the stuff we see now in college athletics.

Once constraints are put in place, we will have less of a free-for-all and people who are really bothered by this can relax a little again.

I’m not paying. I’m not going to games either. I’ll still watch because I love the energy of college football.

Watch very little NFL though

Old fans will probably never leave but new fans arent being created like they used to be. young people are not passionate about sports like previous generations.

I love sports with college football and NFL at top of my list. At the same time, my interest has lessened in past couple of years.

I feel like this is similar for most fans.

It's not so much money as it is the amount of money. Like I'm really into Rugby and the problem there is a lack of money. For the amount of money that goes to pay just one of these highly rated Football players you could fund an entire team of Rugby players.

I believe it was Travis Daniels who said, “I play for the name on the side of my helmet, not the name on my back”, or some similar version thereof.

Tiger fans love the guy, because he demonstrated the same loyalty to the school that we all feel. Which to me begs the question - are we truly fans of the players, or the uniforms they are wearing?

So why then would we stop loving LSU or whoever our college football team is?

Money has been in the sport forever. You just don’t like who’s getting the money now.

How you feel is fine, just don’t be dishonest about it
