What a hire by UNLV. Still think UNC should of went after him or someone younger over Bill.

UNLV isn't going away. They'll be in playoff contention most years.

You’d think they would let it ride with Brennan Marion, but okay…

Dan never beats anyone who has more talent than him, but he is a great high floor, low ceiling program builder/Maintainer and a heck of a QB coach/scout.

Dan ought to be ok in the G5 since he won’t have to worry about recruiting on an SEC-level.

You have to be all-in on recruiting to win consistently in the P5. Mullen proved at UF that he doesn’t give a shite about recruiting on that level and the situation has only gotten worse with NIL and the Portal since he left coaching.

I can't fathom trying to keep 18-22 year olds focused on football in Vegas.

Honestly surprised anyone hired this POS. Even more surprised how so few people know what a disaster Mullen is. Is his show cause order from the NCAA still in effect?

Mullen demonstrated at UF he has no sense of professionalism, no concern for recruiting, doesn't know how to manage a staff, is a poor evaluator of talent, and can't follow simple rules - and worst of all - that he doesn't care about any of this. He views schools and fans as bottomless ATM machines. Despite all the problems that Meyer has had over the years, Tebow will always speak highly of him and stand by him. No one does that with Mullen. There are reasons for this.

The NCAA doesn't hand out show cause orders for regular violations, they hand them out when people demonstrate that they don't care about the rules.

Mullen calls good plays and that's it. He did everything possible to play the wrong guy at QB at UF. Same thing as Moo St, and would have kept Dak on the bench if the other guy hadn't gotten injured. Sounds a lot like how things went down at UF. At Moo St he had one streak in the beginning of 2014, defeating some teams ranked above him, and Moo St was #1 in the first CFP ranking. They then proceeded to lose and were never again a team in contention for anything.

In Mullen's entire career as a head coach, he has never won a regular season game when his team was ranked higher than the opponent. People think he gets more from his talent but it's the opposite. Dude rode Urban Meyer's coattails and became a millionaire. His only accomplishment is winning the East in 2020 and that was because Georgia had a ton of injuries.

People forget that he took a better team to Jax in 2019 and choked the game away, thanks in large part to having Todd Grantham on staff. Then had Bama in Gainesville in 2021, where the crowd was on fire and caused tons of problems for Bama, and his refusal to fire Todd Grantham led to endless 3rd down conversions and a loss for UF - this was after the season where DJ Durkin, one of the best DC's in the nation, had come available and both he and Charlie Strong expressed interest in taking the DC position at UF (people thought for sure Grantham would get fired after 2020) and yet Mullen refused to fire Grantham. After that Bama game, the wheels completely came off for Mullen.

People also forget about the implosion at the end of 2020 - the shoe toss loss, losing to Bama because of Grantham's defense and an overall lack of discipline and toughness, then Mullen literally quit doing his job and UF was completely unprepared to play OU in a bowl game and got humiliated. After the game Mullen said "that team played its last game in Atlanta". When I say he literally quit, I mean that he literally quit. Got paychecks but stopped working.

Tim Tebow (die-hard Gator growing up, parents are Gators) was set to go to Alabama because of Dan Mullen's terrible personality and Meyer rescued that situation. There is decent NIL potential for Las Vegas, but Mullen will find a way to screw that up and piss everyone off.

UNLV will be taking a ride down with Mullen. UNLV hired him either because there was literally no one else that wanted the job or their AD is an idiot. Tards like Matt Barrie suck Mullen off, but the truth is that he is a disaster as a coach and a bad person with no integrity or professionalism. The only thing he is good at is calling plays. That is a recipe for disaster when you've hired him to run a program.

I thought I disliked Dan Mullen but damn

I do echo your sentiment that this will end up being a poor hire for UNLV. Probably will follow a similar trajectory to MacElwain at CMU.

First year or two he'll do relatively well to inspire hope, then will grow complacent and underperform and regress until fans want him fired.

CMU is really a rinky dink operation and if the Stallions issue didn't happen they might have been stuck a while. UNLV, while not a big dog program, has more resources and enough to elevate the program in a fashion similar to what SMU did when they joined the ACC. Many UNLV fans want to join a P4, and this hire is considered a step in that direction.

That is why I think it'll fail. Dan would do well if they kept their expectations low to the pre-odom era. But now that they have momentum from that, and are investing more in NIL/facilities, plus playing in the NFL arena as home field, they are building higher and higher expectations.

Dan will certainly fail to live up to them and they will get sick of his shite quickly.
