Area 4
43 NE 3-5
Box stand on a powerline
Tikka 308
More rain than I thought went over my boot at one spot and couldn’t go to my first choice due to water. But it’s the rut I’m not at work and just got to be in the woods now.

Post now and hopefully have a good update later. Headed to the woods for an afternoon hunt a little later.

Area 2 Public
Saddle and platform
Mathews V3X 33

Trying to get closer to a big 8 I’ve seen. I think I know one of his major bedding areas, and I know there’s a nice oak dropping that does feed at. I’m hoping to play the wind and get between the two.

Get to the stand and the window on the north side the box is blown out and chair is soaked from the rain yesterday. But still better than my office chair at work.

Area 2
38° NW wind
28 nosler
In my saddle about 15’ up an oak. Found some thickets on Google maps, came in blind and set up just downwind of them. Hoping a good one will either be scent checking the downwind side, or one will run a doe out of the thicket into these hardwoods.
Good luck, it’s a beautiful morning!

Gotta love when the weather app says a NW wind so you set up for that, but the wind is actually coming out of the south, blowing straight into the thicket

Good luck, I'm stuck at work through Thursday. Looks like it'd be a pretty morning to hunt here in Baton Rouge.

Ouch. I’ll have to check before I set up. A South wind would change my whole plan for the day.

Got in stand at 10 for a midday sit. Bumped two small bucks walking in. Had to drop kids off at school and gotta pick them up at 3 so time is limited.

Ended up killing a 7pt. First deer I’ve seen since last Monday. Normally I would’ve passed on him. I thought he was a little bigger. He was crossing the opening directly behind me, and I saw he had a rack. Only had a few seconds to grab my gun, get turned around in my saddle, and stop him before he got back into the thick stuff. I still have 2 tags though, so now I can get picky about what I shoot.

The wind forecast here was the opposite of what we had. Winds shifted overnight out of the SE, was supposed to be North all day. My bow hunting buddy was pissed, he based his sit on prediction and wasn’t in the right spot. Nothing for me but another herd of javelina and a couple dozen turkeys. Between the two, no kernel of corn left behind.
