Cutting granite

So someone I know measured the correct width of their new fridge buuuuut apparently didn't get it right when the door opens. So can a simple circular saw take approximately an inch off? This person has cut wood a decent amount of times but never granite. Tia...this guy can't wait to hear thoughts. ??

Diamond blade for sure.
Will not be a walk in the park.

Call the company that installed it they can prob come out and do it on site

If you are bound and determined to do it yourself you will need a grinder with a diamond blade and a shop vac. Hard to cut a perfectly straight line with a grinder but it can be done.
Remember, you only get one shot at it.

You need to hire a professional to do this. This is not a DIY job.

An experienced DIY'er can do this job, I've cut granite for sinks and such plenty of times but not just any grinder will do the task. A good, 12 amp or better 5" - 6" rat tail with a good diamond blade, tenting the area with plastic and someone to run a good shopvac with a filter bag and fine dust/HEPA, and a respirator/eye pro while you cut. I used a Dewalt DW28115 with a 5" Ridgid mesh rim diamond wheel which cut very smooth and quickly but the amount of dust produced is horrendous...

If you need to bullnose and/or polish the edge afterwards then be prepared to hire a pro or invest about $700 in more tools.
That is the OP’s situation which is why I said he needs to hire a professional
He is not talking about cutting an unfinished edge that can be covered by a self rimming sink. This will be an exposed edge if I’m understanding correctly.
Why ruin an expensive slab trying to save a few bucks?

My thoughts as well. But I think he is just needing to widen the opening for the refrigerator, no finishing required, but it is risky, especially if you haven’t done some before.

Return the fridge & get one that fits

If you know who installed the granite call them, if not call a local granite company and pay them a few bucks. You will pay more in equipment to do it yourself than to have someone come out and do it right.

I know nothing about this, but I assume even if you were careful, you'd still have to worry about polishing the edge of the granite. As everyone else said, get someone to do it.

I have helped install granite a handful of times. This is not a job you should tackle yourself. The risk of screwing up is great, and no easy fix if you do screw it up. Just pay a guy a couple hundred to do it. Also agree that it will make a tremendous mess so be aware.

Old way is the best way. Hammer and chisel. Don't forget safety glasses.

Locally, Michael Paul's Natural Stone is who I recommend. I don't know if they will come out for a one-time cut, but they are excellent at what they do -- and if they will, hire them.

Man, I wouldn’t even sttempt to do that myself. Just bite the bullet and pay someone to do that.
