The Wire S2 - Underrated

On probably my 5th rewatch and just finished S2. More I watch it the more I realize that S2 gets a bad wrap.
It has grown on me greatly and a great season of television. Alot of great scenes throughout.

we have been over this so many times and i glad to say we have won the war on season 2.
If you really want to know anything about David Simon's view on police, 14 girls would be written off as a statistic if Frank had just given up the window in the church.
The season has even aged better with the recent port strike. The Franks of the world are still fighting a losing battle to protect their little slice of the pie
Frank thought he could buy his way into political favor. All that would have happened is Clay Davis would ask for more. He sacrificed his son, his union and his morals all for nothing

I love S2 and find it integral to the whole story. People focus on Ziggy and the docks over the street but so much happens: McNulty pinning the floater on Rawls, politics giving Daniels another command, D'Angelo in prison, the reformation of the Barksdale gang, Brother Mouzon, the Greek, Omar testifying. I won't say it is the best season but it is the most underrated as you mentioned.

Probably the most Shakespearean and tragic (in the Greek sense) figure ever put on television. And even better, if you put him as your avatar (when an actual port strike occurs), totally normal people on the poli board will claim you're referencing either pedophilia or occult Satanic rituals involving rape/torture.

I assume the biggest problem for S2 for most people was when it aired people had no idea that each season would focus on a different aspect of Baltimore. So they were expecting a straight continuation of the street scene with Omar, Avon, Stringer, Bodie (but not Wallace
), etc. So when it was all about Frank Sobotka and the port crew people were shocked by that. But S2 is really good though. And as is my obligatory duty in Wire S2 threads, it has Nicky's old lady's boobs in it, which elevates it higher.

I never understood the problem people had with S2 when it aired... sure it had a different focus than S1, but the writing was still superb..

For OP, S2 is even better on the rewatch. I’m a big Pablo Schreiber fan and wished he got more traction after the show in bigger stuff.
