What's the best spinning reel out there that is well built but not killer to the wallet? I have only bought Shimano Stradics in the past but it has been a while since i've looked/priced them. Its all for inshore. TIA

My favorite is the Shimano Stradic 3000 for most stuff, 4000 if doing triple tail or big reds maybe, but the 3000 is just great all around and lightweight. it isnt cheap, about $200.

My best bang for the buck reel is the Okuma Inspira 30. They are more like 80-90 bucks. I've used these for over 2 decades and they are great reels. Caught 2 trout limits this weekend on an Inspira 30.

If I wanted to buy more than two reels, I'd get the Okuma. If only one or two reels for my own use, Stradic.

Don't overlook the Pluger President series. Keep them rinsed, as you should all saltwater reels, they are a great bang for the buck. Instead of going all-in for one "badass" combo, you can get one in 4000 size, one in 3000 size, one in 2000 size, all on appropriately sized UglyStiks, ready for most anything inshore you might want to do, for $500 or less. Spend the difference on bait, tackle, gas, ice, beer.

Newest model Stradic

The yen is weak to the dollar right now. Digitaka shipping is fantastic and quick I have three reels from them. For $150 bucks this is a fantastic reel that has received lots of technology from the Stella line.

If you’re looking for something lighter get the new Vanford from the same site.

Daiwa BG as stated above. I love mine. The stradic is also very good, but I really like the BG. Only thing I didn’t like at first is there is no reverse switch. But I’ve gotten used to it.

I like 2500 series reels more- but Daiwa BG and Stradic are great.

Stradic is still the go to. I don’t have a new version. FK may be the latest model I have. Dont need anything more out of a reel. Also like the Shimano Spheros 3000.

You have me intrigued. Is it the same quality we can expect from the USA distributors? Did you just use a credit card?

I'm interested in this as well, I would be skeptical to use a website like this, but I'm in the market for a pair of Stradic 2500's or maybe 3000's.

Digitaka is legit. Can use either cards or PayPal to pay. I've bought a few reels from there and never had an issue. Super fast shipping too, I've had orders at my door faster from Japan than I've had from Tackle Warehouse in California.

They're legit, and they typically show the backside of the foot so you can see if it was made in Japan, Malaysia, China, etc.

My favorite reel is a JDM Daiwa Luvias made in Japan that's a few years old, but they make them in China now so I'm not sure.

If you want to buy US, pick a Shimano or Daiwa in whatever price range you want, and they're made where they're made. If you want to check sites like Digitaka you may as well go to the trouble of finding a reel made in Japan.

I have a pair of Stradic 2500s and wish I'd gotten one 2500 and one 3000, or a pair or 3000s. I believe the only difference is a bigger bail and bigger handle. I find myself wishing I had the bigger handle when I'm on a hot bite

I'm usually a shimano first fan, but picked up a 6500 BG last year for Cobia and it's a tank. I'd imagine the smaller ones are great as well.

This was me five years ago. I have mostly Daiwa now after getting a BG 2500 combo for a guest reel. At that price point the BG is tough to beat.

In the same boat here - primarily shimano, but have found anything below the Stradic has not held up well. Have a couple BG that are great reels. Some of my venice friends have switched from Stradics to the BG as well.
