Thanksgiving = traditional meal. Christmas meal = whatever sounds good

We basically do the same meal. I like the concept, but I doubt I could convince the family to adopt it.

We started doing this several years ago and I definitely prefer it to repeating the Thanksgiving menu a month later

Christmas Eve, with just the immediate family most years, was always the non-traditional meal. Finger sandwiches, deviled eggs, veggie tray, dessert tray, that kind of stuff. Over the years, it became the tradition.

For many years, the church we attend hosts a traditional Thanksgiving meal the Sunday before the holiday. Doing turkey again less than a week later is too much so we do non-traditional for Thanksgiving day. The MIL already stashed beef tenderloin filets in our freezer. Will smoke then sear. Haven't settled on sides yet. It's just the 4 of us this time. If there's a bigger crowd we've done things like enchiladas, lasagna, pot roast, etc.

Christmas will likely be non-traditional too but not always.

Thanksgiving: traditional meal
Thanksgiving night or Friday after: Turkey sandwiches
Christmas Eve: Chicken and Sausage Gumbo
Christmas: Stuffed pork tenderloin or stuffed chicken in lieu of turkey/ham, otherwise traditional

My family is spread out all over the country. We don’t travel for Thanksgiving. Usually have small groups of 4 or 5 in different cities and eat at restaurants. Last few Christmas dinners together have been prime rib and lobster. I am not cooking this year so I don’t know what my adult children are doing. We will be in Perdido do it could be anything

My ex’s family in high school did this… 25 years ago.

Christmas Eve, or maybe the weekend before, etc.
