.......Americans began to see Truman as a feisty everyman from "Middle America" rather than a partisan Washington, D.C., politico.

.......Truman too readily accepted Douglas MacArthur's advice in Korea when he should have questioned his commanding general's assessment of Chinese intentions...........

............... Truman's achievements in both foreign and domestic affairs, where he confronted some of the most difficult challenges any American president has faced, appear even more significant.

..........Although exempted from the newly ratified Twenty-second Amendment, Truman withdrew his bid for a second full term in the 1952 presidential election because of his low popularity. He was succeeded by Republican Dwight D. Eisenhower.

edidited to add Democrat io the title

Last quality Democrat president was Grover Cleveland. The parties switched in 1896 with William Jennings Bryan and his Cross of Gold speech.

..........it was actually President Dwight D. Eisenhower who famously warned about .the potential dangers of this complex in his farewell address, highlighting the concern about excessive influence of the military and defense industries on government policy

I need to read more history .........

..................Eisenhower was approached by both parties to run for president in 1951 and he chose the Republicans.

.............. He was a moderate with a track record of good/great management skills and no real affinity for either party.

.....so who would pull the strings ....? Must depned on the Party.....or

Something Else?

I'd like to think it's "The Man" in charge.

I'd bet during rough times people like Jeffery Epstine wouldn't be allowed or even tolorated....but I'm a bit historically nostalgic.

Should have let McArthur push the Chinese shite in. Wouldn’t be dealing with a lot of shite today. The Soviets wouldn’t have done a damn thing.

Truman's biggest mistake, by far, was not finishing off communism when we had the chance.

Both my grandfathers were there in the European Theater. One was actually in Berlin when the war was declared "over". Our boys were right there, ready to march East and finish the job. Patton wanted it and they were ready to follow him to whatever end.

Truman pulled the plug.

This led to the Cold War and every problem we've had in Eastern Europe ever since. He fricked the dog, bigly. I'm not saying he was a terrible President because he wasn't, but he could have set the USA up for absolute world dominance if he had just been willing to go straight to Stalin's throat.

Gingrich balanced the budget. Clinton did what he was told after doing what he wanted led to losing the House for the first time in 60 years.

Clinton maxed out at 43% of the vote.

JFK was solid but not nearly as consequential as he's portrayed.

History has shown that there is always an an opposite reaction to ever action. We dont always know how that direction manifests. It would have been evil to continue that war.

I don’t know the stats but the country was war weary. Most had no interest in even going to Europe. Pearl Harbor was the only reason war support increased in the pacific. Truman knew this and the citizens were on his side. The real reason Truman didn’t run was because of his sacking of MacArthur. Firing MacArthur had to be done even though he was incredibly popular. MacArthur essentially disobeyed an order by the CIC and Truman felt if the military truly belonged to the people via the office of the president that MacArthur had to be fired. MacArthur believed since he was supreme commander of an area outside of the USs jurisdiction he had the sole right to choose any action he pleased. If Truman hadn’t acted military leaders would still be doing whatever the hell they wanted without influence from the people. And they sort of still do but the precedent has been set. You can and will be fired.

JFK was a solid Democrat

He was liberal but loved the country and tried to clean up the corruption
