I have a seriously good feeling about next year. I think Chavis will make a huge difference in scheme, techinique, discipline, and motivation. That spark alone would be enought, but we will also have two experienced QB's.

Add this to Stafford and Moreno gone, the possibility that Tebow goes, and Bama starting w/ a new QB and the odds move back to our favor.

Furthermore, there were a few key turning points season that broke against us. I could name 3 or 4 plays that turn this season into a 1 loss season. But 1 especially that would have definitely made it a 2 loss season. That play was the dropped pass for certain touchdown in the Bama game. LSU makes that catch and that game is over. Win the Bama game and no way we lose the last two. But that is in the past.

This team has grown a great deal this year and while I agree they drastically underachieved, I beleive prudent measures have been undertaken to correct the issues. The talent is still there and more is on the way. So the future is BRIGHT!

One more addition that would be nice: Special teams GURU. Florida's blocked kick/punt stats since Meyer has been there are astounding. They've turned many games on special teams. We don't even return punts, just fair catch. Would like to see an improvement there.

That's the same number that Florida State beat, and they were #21 after going 1-2 vs. ranked teams. We went 1-4 vs. ranked teams -- beating the crap out of the GT team than beat FSU -- and end up ranked behind both of them because of 1 more loss?

Yeah, the polls really factor in SoS.

That poll is full of mistakes. This is from College Football News:

"Note: Remember that the AP poll doesn't matter in the BCS standings. This poll no longer has anything to do with determining the national champion.

Thoughts: 1) Oregon one spot ahead of Boise State, but Boise State had the better record and beat the Ducks in Eugene.
2) Ole Miss beat Texas Tech in the Cotton, but is 14 while the Red Raiders are 12th.
3) LSU destroyed Georgia Tech in the Chick-fil-A, but is 28 while the Yellow Jackets are 22nd.
4) BYU is 25th and Arizona 36th, but the Wildcats beat the Cougars in the Las Vegas Bowl.
5) Georgia Tech is 22 and Florida State 21. Both were 9-4, but Georgia Tech beat FSU.
6) Michigan State is 24, California 26th. Cal beat Michigan State."

The AP continues to make itself even less relevant. Only one or two teams in the country even care about AP rankings anymore (2003).

loss to arky hurt bad. It was the only loss to an unranked team. Other 4 losses came to top 14 teams in the final poll.

No excuse for voting a G Tech team higher than LSU after that beatdown.
True, but since when have the polls been worried about logical consistency? Fact is, though, LSU's season has to be tied in to the Chick-fil-a bowl, as does GT's whole season. And truth is the rankings do reflect the overall record sometimes, and the immediate bowl win or loss sometimes, depending on the moods of whoever is voting. So we just wait until next year, glad that at least Lee Corso is in a good LSU mood today.

Yes, it does. We can enjoy the sport itself. Anyway, if people were expecting LSU to be a top team with the loss of RP and all of the losses on defense they were quite delusional. Maybe not 8-5, but certainly not a top 10 team.

I can't remember the last time a 5-loss team finished ranked in the Top 25, so I don't know why so many of you seem surprised.

I don't know what LSU was ranked going into the Peach Bowl, but they had some unimpressive losses on their resume that even beating a team ranked as high as Georgia Tech was didn't really help much. While I think LSU proved themselves a better team than Georgia Tech, the Jackets can only fall so far and you can only rise so high.

It's like in 2001. We were ranked 2 and you were ranked, what, 22, when we played in the SEC title game. You beat us pretty soundly but we were still ranked higher than you were because we only had so far to fall and you had a long way to climb.

Post-season rankings are kind of useless anyway unless you are hoping for a split national title.

theres no doubt in my mind the LSU team we saw in Atlanta would obliterate most of that top 25, btw.

LSU obviously showed tremendous improvement between the Arkansas game and the Georgia Tech game and will definitely be ranked preseason, so I don't know what all the fuss is about. LSU will be very good next year.

Also, at Ohio State losing and CLIMBING a spot.

No 8 win teams ranked. As much as it hurts, LSU just doesn't deserve a top 25 ranking. We got blown out 3 times, almost lost to Troy, and essentially quit after the Bama loss. It's a fitting end to a dismal season.
I agree. This was a dismal season. 5 losses, 3 of them blowouts and a couple very ugly wins. I had to be reminded of that after our awesome and very surprising performance in the bowl game. Unfortunately that victory doesn't take away the awefulness that was this season. We didn't deserve to be ranked and I wouldn't put us very high for next year either until we prove on a consistant basis that the old LSU is back.

"Most" meaning just over 50% of them. I'd say at least 10 or 12 could have given us a very good game and possibly beat us. Texas, Oklahoma, USC, Florida and yes, even Ohio State probably would have beaten us.

The Bama and Ohio St. ranking is a complete joke. No way should they be that high.

We do not deserve a Top 25 rating with a 8-5 record. We must regroup and refocus for 2009.

This is true and fair. It hurts but it gives LSU something to focus on for next season. Our Tigers will be back, and better than ever!

Georgia was ahead of Georgia Tech. That is a recognition of the LSU beatdown. LSU's 7-5 season was the reason.

The same way:

1) Florida is ahead of Ole Miss
2) USC is ahead of Oregon Stae
3) Georgia is ahead of Georgia Tech
4) Penn State is ahead of Iowa
5) Texas is ahead of Texas Tech
6) Texas Tech is ahead of Ole Miss
7) Ole Mis is ahead of Vandy

ETC. The polls are about the Body of Work, not one impressive game. 7-5 Chief
