It’s simple math.
That was the explanation of state senators Tuesday when asked why they are considering an increase in the state sales tax rate – already the highest in the country.
It’s a proposal that would hit all consumers in the pocketbook, but especially the poor.
The idea emerged Monday because raising the state portion of the sales tax from 4.45 cents to 5 cents on every dollar would pay for the income tax cuts in Gov. Jeff Landry’s ambitious proposal to rewrite the state tax code. Louisiana’s combined local and state sales tax rate is currently 9.51%.

The committee advanced two other key portions of Landry’s original plan.
House Bill 1 would replace the three-tier individual income system with a flat 3% rate and triple the standard deduction for individual filers.
House Bill 3 would repeal the corporate franchise tax, which is a tax on corporate assets.

The Senate is planning to take up Landry’s tax bills Thursday.
Senate President Cameron Henry, R-Metairie, said senators haven’t settled on the final sales tax and income tax rates and are also considering raising revenue by redirecting money from the vehicle sales tax away from infrastructure projects and to the state general fund.

So working on the tax increase bf cutting the income tax? Riiiight! No accountability no budget cut?

Start with asking every department to provide two reports :
1) Service delivery if 5% were cut off the top
2) Service delivery if 10% were cut off the top.
Present both to the Legislature and force their hand on where to start , then back into the tax cut from there.

Typical Louisiana bullshite
1) They went in selling the public with 1 plan-eliminate income tax
2) "Conservatives" got involved and didn't want their favorite government programs cut.
3) Everything got scrapped and pared down to where it's not even recognizable from the original plan.
4) We're all going to get fricked, because our politicians are the dumbest in the country.

People get pissed when the John Bels of our state end up as governor but you have to look no further than the way these bozos govern.. fricking idiots waste time and political capital on BS then get bogged down on unpopular reforms. People get pissed about sales taxes increases. They see it in there money outflow everyday while not understanding income tax reforms that they won’t feel on a daily basis.

More or less.
In theory the plan was to eliminate, or significantly reduce the state income tax. However, to offset that loss of revenue the plan was to keep/increase the sales tax and start taxing previously untaxed services (dog grooming, cleaning, haircuts, etc)
As it stands now the elimination of the income tax is off the table. The proposed "flat tax" of 3% is likewise gone. There may be less corporate tax breaks, and the citizens may see some reduction of their income taxes, but not as much as was hoped for.
Democrats don't like the increase sales tax because they argue it disproportionally hurts the poor. To some degree that is accurate. The "poor" pay little to no income tax, whereas everyone, regardless of income, pays the same amount in sales tax.

Step 1: Trim government spending.
Step 2: Reduce income tax based off less spending.

Step 3: reform the nursing care rules so we are aligned with the other states.
Step 4; serious tort reform in conjunction with confiscating uninsured vehicles that are on public roadways.

Get pissed or whatever. This all stems from John Bell.fricking LA so his close friends, the Carmouches, can absolutely butt frick Louisiana with legacy and erosion lawsuits.
They've chase every legitimate company out of Louisiana and now we are sucking wind trying to stay afloat.
Landry and company have very few options at this point.
Louisiana sucks because of blood sucking liberals who keep giving our money away to those who chest the system
