The biggest problem that college football (and we) is facing is the transfer portal.

Is the transfer portal and the impact that it will have on a team. In the past, if you didn't like your place on the team, you had to work to make it work. Now, with players being able to leave and immediately be eligible to play the next year, that is no longer a motivating factor.
BK has lost his stars and they are quitting on him because they think, right or wrong, that they will just go somewhere else next year.
The players aren't loyal to anyone except themselves. That's why a 50+ year fan like myself is beginning to lose my loyalty to them. Let that trend continue and college football is in big trouble.

Who specifically are you referring to?

NIL, in combination with the immediate-play transfer rules, is absolutely killing the game.
My emotional connection to LSU football, and to college football in general, is far, far less than it was just a few years ago.
Players are now mercenaries and jump from team to team. Zero continuity. It's now just a semi-pro league, but even worse because players can switch teams every year, unlike NFL where they're bound under contract.

100% The kids have no loyalty to their school. It's hard to root for a kid to develop and do well when he might be on the opposite sideline next year.

The portal and nil is great. It creates ultimate parity.

This.
What "stars" is the OP referring to? LSU has lost some depth players that MIGHT have become "stars" over the last couple of years, but not anywhere close to a situation like Dillon Gabriel leaving OU for Oregon; or Cam Ward leaving Washington St. for Miami, or even guys like Isiah Bond and Caleb Downs leaving Alabama. In fact, I can't think of a single significant starter from last year's LSU team transferring to a new spot other than maybe Logan Diggs...who hasn't played a snap at Ole Miss. I guess you could throw in Lance Heard as well, but he wouldn't be a starting tackle on this year's LSU team.
If anything, LSU has been more immune from losing "star" players than most.

Can you explain in more detail? How specifically is it killing the game?

There has to be some kind of limitations to the portal. Even adding some simple and reasonable limits like this would help so much.
Everyone gets one transfer, no questions asked.
For every transfer after that, you have to sit out a year at the new school, unless if it's a grad transfer or due to coaching change.

Used to love college football. I hate college football more than the NFL. Would never have thought that was possible just 5 years ago.

We will see who when this season is over. Unfortunately, I think our day is coming.

You and I should never be allowed to be in the same place at the same time. We agree way too much on this subject. :)

If your team is winning you have no problem rooting those kids and if the kid that transferred is doing well for your team it's fine too. A college kid with 4 years to play should make decisions that are best for his future because you know the coach and school will do the same. When it comes to winning there is no loyalty.
Also, the transfer portal has added some parody to college football which has been great for all levels.

You said Brian Kelly has lost his stars, as in it has already happened. I'm not talking about what you think might possibly happen in the future.

Selfishness across the board killing college football passion. People will still watch, but are much less passionate.
Reality is when I see players acting like $200,000 + scholarships are not enough, I just wish the NFL would just make its own minor league and pay these players instead of letting them destroy all of college athletics. Same for NBA.
Courts have destroyed amateur athleticism and it’s created players that don’t care about anything but their money.

What you are saying is 100% facts. The transfer portal took away what made college football special. I always enjoyed looking back on recruiting classes and comparing rankings.
Now days, you’re lucky if 5-8 stay on your team every year. Some are playing and still leaving.

It has not been amateur for many years. Everyone was making bank on NCAA football except the players. That wasn't right, but the demographic playing the sport does little to merit support. I will not be watching the last two games. Better things to do. I think Kelly was a mistake.

So no Jayden Daniels for you.

I no longer look at this as a misuse of the word. College football is indeed a parody of what it once was.
However, I am all for the players getting paid. Just not the free transfers.

I’m sorry, the only stars on the team currently are a Freshman RB and….
Yep that’s it.
