A blind link and no summary is always a problem.

You post like Kelly runs a program.

This should have been obvious given his 0 natties at a brand that’s given every conceivable advantage, embarrassing sideline antics, and dead videographer with zero responsibility or remorse.

Yeah, that's why he was there for 12 years. He won 55 games in his last 5 years there. He left that program sitting pretty. Yes, he can be an a-hole and maybe the game has passed him by some, but ND was a turd for two decades before he took over and made them relevant again.

There is no one with any shred of CFB knowledge that can deny he improved that program dramatically. Notre Dame was dog $hit for years prior to him taking the reins.

There is also no one with any shred of CFB knowledge that can say he's doing well now at LSU.

He's not cutting it thus far.

This is all kind of dumb.

People blast BK for not winning a big game at Notre Dame but the reality of the situation is that Notre Dame hasn't won a big game in 30 years.

BK was there, what? 12 of those years? It isn't like Notre Dame has been some beacon of success.

This is true.
ND guy should also point out ND would be undefeated if Kelly was still their coach.

ND was completely irrelevant before BK. He brought ND stability and what, two playoff appearances?

He took Notre Dame to the 4 team playoff more then once.
I would say that was pretty impressive when you saw Notre Dame before Brian Kelly.

Freeman may make it but hasn't yet. Don't forget he lost to N Illinois. Let's see how that translates to the playoffs. I would be willing to bet Notre Dame's record would be far different with LSU's schedule this season.

I do think this new era has been an adjustment for Kelly, as many coaches, and that will depend on if he can get LSU back to playoffs in the new rugged SEC, if he can adapt. It drove Saban away.

I don't understand the downvotes. There's plenty of truth to what he said... I guess some don't like the fact that the "I told you so" message is coming from someone who covers Notre Dame.

Like he said, BK won the games he was suppose to win. Its simple: He did enough to not get fired there... but he didn't do enough to win the big games when it mattered. Everybody knows Notre Dame has weak schedule every season. They benefit off prestige. That NBC contract is why they aren't pressured to enter a conference.

He hit the coaching lottery and found someone dumb enough to throw the kitchen sink at him on the backend of his career.

Yes I did think it was the best hire compared to what we had hired in the last 40 years outside of Saban. However, I was fooled by the impressive resume and didn’t realize he was so bad in big games at the time. Still given the options LSU has when we fire coaches, he was one of the better options without taking a chance on an up and comer.

I think everyone here thinks that LSU gets to pick whatever coach they want and that everyone would willingly leave and come coach here and that just has not been the case over and over again.

Every time we fire someone we seemingly get played by the bigger names, Tom Herman/Lincoln Riley. I mean we fired our head coach to promote our defensive coordinator to HC, because we couldn’t get any coaches to take the job. And we lucked into a NC with Joe Burrow.

Freeman has recovered nicely and has them playing well, but he inherited a program in excellent shape from Kelly. Kelly actually had to build the program and turn them into a winner. Freeman was fortunate to take over a winning program that averaged 11 wins per year in the previous 5 seasons under BK.

The SEC is on another level and BK did a very good job to get LSU to 10 wins right away in consecutive seasons, but this year the team is getting worse in the back half of the season. He has to fix that. And LSU needs a viable backup QB because we could use one right now. Either BK didn't recruit well there for this year or he feels Nuss is that much better than the backup, but Nuss has been a turnover machine. Can't win many SEC games with a turnover machine at QB.

It seems to me a lot of the same culture issues we had late in Ed O’s tenure are still lingering. Guys not knowing their assignments on the field, loafing, miscommunication.

The "big games" everyone points to are:

2012 national championship vs Saban in his prime

2018 Clemson

2020 Alabama

Those teams went a combined 41-1, with the only loss coming to the literal Heisman winner. I'm not going to get bent out of shape because Kelly couldn't beat some actual elite teams with lesser talent.

You usually lose to more talented teams, it just is what it is. Josh Heupel is a good coach but he still hasn't been able to beat Georgia.

Says the shite program Kelly inherited at ND…they sucked for a decade before him. He at least made them very relevant again.
