You can’t compare Saban and Kelly records, Saban is much better.

But they both are old school coaches who are used to total player control.

With NIl, portal, and todays soft pampered kids, the players are in control and coaches like BK can’t handle that.

20 years ago, what Lacy did woujd have gotten his scholarship pulled or at least an immediate suspension.

Now, people support players yelling at their coach.

and also seem to defend a player being held accountable by his coach. It’s a softer, pampered, petting puppy kinda world with the participation trophies.

Which coaches can? Kirby is probably the best coach in the country and his team looked like garbage two weeks ago. Lincoln Riley was the hottest coach in football three years ago and now he cannot win at USC. Norvel had FSU at one loss last year and cannot win this year. Dabo has proven he cannot handle the portal. Lanning almost lost to a bad Wisky team last night. DeBoer has three losses before November at a school with superior talent to almost everyone they play. Kiffin won the off-season national title, has top five talent and loses to bad Kentucky and LSU teams. Once Sark plays a real schedule they will fall apart.

No coaches are dominant in NIL and the portal. It has not ruined college football, it has made if more fun.

I guess if you enjoy mercenary players that have no ownership in the name on the front of the jersey, sure.

NIL is fine by itself. A kid should get a cut, and kids were doing so under the table already.

The portal is the issue. Get yelled at by your coach? I’m out. Don’t get playing time you want? I’m out. The NFL would be a shite show if a player could declare himself an unrestricted free agent at any point.

They need to rein it in, immediately. Give a kid one free transfer. Anything else, you sit out a year.

Whatever the current climate may be, you better adjust to it or stfu about not being able to compete.

Find a guy that can deal with the way cfb is these days and take us as far as he can.

Makes a lot more sense than constantly throwing excuses out for why our 60 year old coach can’t win under these circumstances.

DeBoer doesn't have 3 losses. He has 2 and is highly likely in the CFP. And Bama has been pretty good as of the last few weeks.

frick that. These kids want contracts and to be paid like professionals. So do that.

If you sign a contract, you cannot break it until 75% of it is honored. You’re guaranteed your money though.

Choose not to sign a contract, and you can transfer whenever you want. You’re paid in game checks though, and the money stops once you leave the team.

Strong coaches demand respect and Brian Kelly is not a strong coach.

He thought he could come here and sleepwalk his way to SEC and National titles. Saban refined talent and demanded respect. Brian Kelly thought that winning 10 games a year at Notre Dame would make hood BR, NOLA, Laffy, and Shreveport kids respect him

I’m sure the portal plays a lot into this, but this also translates the workforce today. In the past year, I had employees that when you hold them accountable, they either call in the next day or they quit in a few weeks. It’s this generation as a whole that has this soft mentality

Agree on the portal, but I disagree on the one free transfer.

Since they want to act like NFL players lite with their entitlement, give them contracts - 3 years and you only get a release in very limited circumstances (coach leaves, school cancels your degree program, death in immediate family and moving home, etc.)

NFL players can't just pack it up and move to another team, why should college players?

There definitely seems to be a disconnect and lack of rapport.

Good point NIL and Portal are a business transaction and the leverage for the transaction needs be an even split between player and coach. Money should be put in a trust or escrow and dispersed after graduation. Money changes people and attitudes. Good/bad/ugly.

The NCAA is mostly to blame for this mess. It is an archaic organization that needs to go. I don't have the answers as to what an effective modern governing body should look like, but the NCAA ain't it. Appears to me not a lot of thought was given to how NIL would play out - it clearly needs to be reigned in. It is out of control currently and quite frankly, it may be too late to reform it.

Why not hire a pro coaching staff and hire agents to procure players on one year contracts?

Absolutely. No accountability! It’s ruining every sport.

When Kelly got here many of us were glad to have a proven CEO type coach who could speak intelligently. Now he’s a bum who needs to be fired.

Are Nuss and the receivers practicing constantly like Burrow and Chase did? Just one example of what it takes to achieve success.

We have a few good players giving their all even if they aren’t 5 stars. We also have a lot of entitled self centered players who think they’re ready to be NFL caliber superstars.

Kelly isn’t running, throwing, blocking, catching or doing the work on the practice field to give us a chance to be a Team not worried about personal stats. I can’t name one leader who stands out and represents LSU football as it should be.

This Team is soft and has no chest, or pride. NIL and the portal have convinced them they are in control, not the coaches.

Welcome to the new paradigm in college football.

Saban as usual was correct.

NIL is why he quit. You see how happy he looks on game day set he probably wishes he would of got out 5 years ago

Look at how well teams with players that aren’t millionaires are doing…. Army, Indiana, SMU, Tulane, etc. That’s because the players on those teams are still coachable. Look at how mediocre the SEC is now.

So we have a professional regime managed by an out of date management paradigm run by boosters who don't mind pissing away money .
