What's your favorite medium-sized city in all of Europe?

I'm arbitrarily deciding that medium-sized means a population from 50,000 up to 250,000.
My choice is Alesund, Norway. I love the water everywhere, the islands, and the Art Nouveau architecture and decor.

Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain but it's got a population of 252,000

Venice. They miss your population cut off on the high side but only by 369 people.
Siena. They are barely over the low end of your population criteria.

Y'all's definitions are all fricked up. Baton Rouge should not be that close to "major city" territory
I'm arbitrarily ignoring your definition and saying either Florence (367K) or Lyon (520k).

Haha love it, in the spinoff (or predecessor) thread for “favorite small city in Europe” I arbitrarily stated exactly these figures, 50k-250k inhabitants as a “small city”
Guess it’s all relative and subjective, for me medium would be 200k-600k population (with max 1 million in broader metro area).
That said I’m going with:
- Bologna, IT
- Sevilla, ES
- Verona, IT
- Strasbourg, FR
- Porto, PT (might fall just above even my own arbitrary range, in terms of population)
frick I realized my favorite cities fall on either side of my* medium range so I had to have a good think on it.
For my answers that meet you arbitrary parameters, see the small cities thread (edit: I see now that you were the OP of that thread too ha)

Lucerne, Switzerland by far. Under 90k people and it's insanely beautiful. I really don't think any city in thr world at a small-medium population even comes close.
I was also impressed with Ljubljana, Slovenia when I was there for a few days en route to Lake Bled, but it's listed at 285k.
ETA-- and travel to Lucerne is quite easy. Flight into Zurich then a scenic train ride right into the city center of Lucerne. I highly recommend it. My wife would move there tomorrow if she could. The prettiest mountains, lakes rivers you'll ever see. The freshest air you'll ever breathe. Very, very clean and safe with some top notch restaurants.
The townsfolk all take waterproof bags to and from work. After work during the summer, they change out of their suits, jump in the river and swim home. I'm not joking. It's a fricking awesome town.

Verona is pretty damn nice. Old town built into the crescent of the river. Colosseum, and plenty of sights.
