It's obvious that it won't be a real department (like DOE, DOD, etc.) but rather a task force serving at the President's pleasure. Supposed to be an advisory board. I am certain they'll find all kind of things to cut but will it actually happen? It will need to be done well before the mid-terms to have a chance at being effective.

Anyone who understands it well, it would be good to know more about it.

It's going to be used to shine a spotlight on government waste and recommend workforce reductions is my guess

Even in the DOD there is sooo much waste. We should definitely cut the social welfare but I think in DOD is where most of the waste is. Way too many contractors who don't contribute one bit really to effectiveness and efficiency of the military.

Its effectively a think tank, that makes recommendations to the President.

It will come down to the President's ability to get the agenda passed and Congress's willingness to go with it.

Its better to have it than not have it, regardless of the outcome.

I hope it has a website where the public can provide input. I have an idea about something our agency does which is duplicative of another.

If you enjoy paying $100 million for Rats being tested to see if they can grow balls or spending $250 million to see if monkeys in Africa can eat sunflowers in America without changing to the color of yellow - yea, I would say that the DOGE is going to be great

In other words, they are going to be cutting all of the stupid dumb shite out of the budget

To cut positions Trump can do at least a couple of things. One is he can issue an Executive Order allowing Department Heads to reclassify employees from civil servants to political appointments - then Trump can fire those people at his will. This is the area that the Biden Administration has been working on to so-call "Trump-proof" the federal workforce. So it will be challenged, but ultimately it is clear that Trump will win on this - just hope it is sooner rather than later.

Second, he can tell Congress that there are "excess funds" in certain agencies' budgets that are not necessary to carry out the job. If Congress approves then the cuts/layoffs are made.

Any stonewallers will be made very public and framed to in favour of government waste and corruption. I don't think there's going to be as much resistance as we might expect. IMHO

This task force should do everything as publicly as possible to make it difficult for the swamp creatures to oppose it.

I’d like to agree with you but I think all these politicians have pet projects and supporters they are indebted to and won’t be unselfish enough to stop the runaway gravy train. Not to mention Dems will fight Trump on anything and everything out of spite.

Remember these little guys?

The treadmill cost $47 to make. The government spent $3 million dollars on that study.

Their conclusion - yep, that's the way they swim.

What I want to know is what can he cut out that the next dumbass president can't just undo the progress he makes.

I'd really like to see some sort of results driven metric requirement for bills to pass and for them to remain law. For example, if the "inflation reduction act" is supposed to reduce inflation, and it doesn't succeed, it needs to be automatically rolled back.

DOGE is an executive branch piece for this most part. They may not be able to eliminate departments, but they probably get to pair them down a lot without congress intervention at all.

Huge piece of this is who runs Treasury. You must have someone that will refuse to send out funds. If you put some Wall Street / Establishment lackey at Treasury, you probably get nothing done.
