He flat out said in the nicest way possible that we don’t have an SEC caliber secondary and he’s absolutely right. Burns, Gilbert and Ryan are not sec caliber athletes at safety/star, at corner zy is prob our only sec caliber cb and even he has issues vs speed.

Stamps is a solid young cb but ideally he prob is more ideal as 3 or a nickel than a boundary CB on an elite sec defense and woodland is pretty athletic but lacking in size. Young players like spears, Jackson and toviano need to get more run these next couple games it’s clear the experienced guys don’t have the athleticism or instincts

Hard to win the Kentucky Derby without a thoroughbred. Those are on the way.

So does Vandy have more talent than we do? I hate the excuse “Burns, Gilbert and Sage suck” “we don’t have the talent to win”. bullshite! Put someone else out there then and coach them up to play better. frick all these damn excuses.

If we had okl, tenn, uga, ole miss, bama, atm, safety personnel, 3 of those 4 qb td runs dont happen. Watch each one our safeties and penn remove themselves from even having a chance to make plays.

Last big one sage sprinted straight up field 4 steps while milroe was running down right sideline. You then see him do a literal U and be 5 steps behind. He was deep safety middle of field and had 20 yds deep and angle if just runs left ha. 15-20 yd play gets houses for 70+. That isn't coaching. Mad at Kelly for not upgrading s and lb before season, and not realizing Perkins was star pos and not flat footed mlb

This narrative that vandy shut them down is false. Bama had 35 pts and over 400 yards of offense and ran for over 5 YPG. The difference is vandy forced turnovers we didn’t. I do agree with you I’ve said from the beginning the young guys should’ve gotten. A bigger opportunity to take one of those 3 spots. It baffles me that Kylin Jackson barely plays I truly don’t get it

Vandy is gonna finish 6-6.

I get it, they shocked Bama, but let’s stop pretending they’re some admirable benchmark.

Also we don't have elite SEC type Def tackles, Defensive ends (minus Swinson) and linebackers (besides Weeks sometimes).

And now, because he’s rode the bench for two years, he won’t be game ready next year. Kelly needs to cut the Notre Dame Boy Scout seniority bullshite.

1 class? Year 4?

Get outta here with that crap. He can either learn to use the portal or retire.

No idea who their safeties are, but I would take them over Burns, Gilbert, and Ryan in a heartbeat.

Why not? Recruiting busts? Poor coaching? Guys leaving for NIL or early for the draft?

Who did you get in the portal or from JUCO?

No, Vandy got their shite pushed in by South Carolina and lost to Georgia State.

As crazy as it sounds, even Vandy probably has more talented safeties than LSU does. We have safeties that should be playing in the Ivy League.

But they did shut down Milroe. Vanderbilt held Miloe to 10 yards rushing. With video of that game and an extra week to prepare, how did LSU let Milroe rush for 185 yards?

At least at halftime, adjust, say "something other than Milroe's legs are going to have to beat us," and stop Milroe from running...like Vandy did.

Given the apparent football IQ of our safeties, you might have chosen another conference.

I'm aware. Make him try to replicate that on a rainy night. We KNEW his running was killing us. Why not take that away and hope he couldn't pass as well as he did at Vandy?

How do you propose to take it away?

Our interior defensive line is small and overmatched and none of our safeties can tackle.

The book is out on this defense, you can run up the middle and force the safeties to make a play, usually, they can't.

Agreed. What good is it if these veterans know where to line up but can’t make plays?
