I know two M.D.s that are in their early 50s who have walked away from medicine, and another internal medicine doctor who's been a buddy since childhood told me last night that he gave 120 days notice to his partnership last Friday.

Common reasons: they can't truly practice medicine, they can only operate like a rat in the maze that insurance gives them; burnout from seeing too many patients each day and only getting a couple of minutes with each; and basically not being able to make a profit unless the "fudge" (lie) on billing items.

My buddy has been tore up about it for two years, and says he can't go to hell for lying on billing just to feed his family, he'll find another line of work.

I think our healthcare system in the USA is about to take another big dip down over the next 5-10 years.

Probably walking away since they can make way more money in medical device sales.

I have heard this from medical practitioners I know. It is a shame. Start budgeting for boutique medicine.

Let's see if RFK can bring at least some change.

The docs themselves are to blame for a big part of this, as their cartel (AMA) actively prevents people from becoming doctors, thus driving up the price.

My primary care doc went to one of these suite services (MDVIP) to ease the load and provide better care, then still got out a year later.

Most practices and home health company commit Medicare and insurance fraud daily. Home health companies are the worst.

We have a local doc that 10 years ago went to a subscription based service. you pay him a flat rate per year that is good for a certain amount of services. After that you pay more.

More to it than that probably but he has said its been working for him and hes glad he did it.

Primary care specialties can be an absolute grind, especially if you aren't truly in control of your practice. I cannot imagine doing clinic 4-5 days a week for the rest of my career. Clinic days are so mentally exhausting.

every doctor I know bitches about having to learn how to run a business, deal with employees and figure out billing.

my old doc retired early cause of this. It was hell trying to find another primary care that could get me in within a few months.

now my primary care practice is entirely hot women doctors. It wasn't fun going in there for a hemoroid

Many dentist are going out of network for this same reason. I am not a dentist, but am told if you want to do it right and properly take care of your patients you can't do it through insurance.

Ran into this a few years ago what my dc switched to this.

$2,500/yr membership fee just to be seen. I called around because I wasn't paying that on top of insurance and out of pocket. Found out many many are going to that system. Luckily I found a new office that is not doing it yet.

The US has the absolute worst healthcare in the developed world in spite of spending way more than any other nation.

Add in arbitrary changes to billing requirements for payment by insurance companies and Medicare that serve no other purpose than to decrease the chance they pay.
